Fresh Music Friday

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

‘No Shame’ – 5 Seconds of Summer

Hot on the heels of the announcement of their fourth album, 5SOS are back with their first single of 2020. ‘No Shame‘ is a buoyant bop full of groove and is proof that the band just get better over time, perfecting their craft and evolving their sound as they continue to mature both personally and as artists. The synth-driven track is a subtle nod to the 80s music which has been inspiring them as of late and could arguably be featured on the soundtrack of a John Hughes teen flick. The overall sound of the material released for this era has been experimental for the band and an experiment with positive results because we can’t get enough of it!

‘No Judgement’ – Niall Horan

If there’s a song that sums up Niall as a person, it has to be ‘No Judgement’. The slick, rhythmical smash is an effortlessly cool sound pairing a touch of guitar with punchy production and charming lyrics that are full of his personality. The single is a different style to his typical sound, with a more modern pop approach, proving that Mr Horan can, in fact, dabble in a number of genres and still produce a certified bop!

‘Intentions’ – Justin Bieber ft Quavo

After releasing his most recent single, ‘Yummy,’ Justin Bieber now teams up with Quavo to create another bop for all of us. ‘Intentions’ has a more different vibe and message compared to ‘Yummy.’ We can definitely see us playing these tracks throughout spring break and the summer. Even though he has taken a hiatus, we’re confident that Biebs will bounce back in the pop industry!

‘Moment’ – Victoria Monet

Victoria Monet didn’t come to play with ‘Moment’. Her beautiful, soulful voice compares to no other on the lusty track as she croons about taking what you want-turning lust into reality. A steamer tribute to lovers everywhere, step up to the plate and make all of the desire worth it. Talk about shootin’ your shot!

‘Yikes’ – Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is a queen and she is making us all aware of it in her new song ‘Yikes.’ In her first song of 2020, it seems that the main goal with this song was to prove her authenticity. Nicki is a spitfire in this song with lines such as “Yikes, I play tag and you it for life. Yikes, you a clown, you do it for likes,” absolute fire. There is no music video for the song just yet but we can’t imagine it will be anything less than impressive coming from Nicki!

‘Roses’ – Adam Lambert ft Niall Rogers

Adam Lambert is taking us back to the ‘70s in his track ‘Roses.’ With a beat reminiscent to that if ‘Staying Alive’ by The Bee Gees, this song has you on your feet dancing across the floor disco style from the first hook. Adam is no stranger to musical exploration, and we absolutely love the style he has chosen to go with for this track. Here’s us hoping the rest of Lambert’s album has a similar feel!

‘Birthday’ – Anne Marie

Do you have a birthday coming up? So does Anne-Marie! ‘Birthday’ is her first song jumping into the new decade since her collaboration with Lauv on the song ‘fu*k, i’m lonely’ in August 2019. The song is the perfect comeback with a relatable message and energetic beats. “I’ma do what I like, I’ma eat what I like cause it’s my birthday”, if that’s not the truth then we don’t want it! The music video captures Anne Marie’s gentle feministic aesthetic with a baby pink glow and gold details. Our parties are nowhere near as extravagant, but you are all invited! You too, Anne-Marie.

On top of previously released singles ‘Simmer’ and ‘Leave It Alone’ the EP consists of three other songs. ‘Cinnamon,’ ‘Creepin,’ and ‘Sudden Desire,’ are all very different sounding tracks and each showcases a different part of Hayley’s vocal skills. Her talent is undeniable in each and every track she releases, and she is constantly taking fans by storm and surprising them with twists and turns. We are so looking forward to this new era of Hayley and we at Fresh Music Friday! cannot wait for her to release the rest of the album!

‘Father of All…’ – Green Day

Green Day has not disappointed with the new album. It is perhaps the shortest of all their albums but it’s no less full of classic bangers you’d expect from the band. The songs all have a different unique sound, but they are all equally enjoyable. On paper, this album seems a bit of a gamble but it has most certainly paid off for the band, Thanks to the inspiration from unlikely source Kendrick Lamar, this album uses storytelling and tons of attitude to really pack a musical punch. They couldn’t have produced a better comeback album which is sure to impress fans worldwide!

‘Paint Another Life’ – Camryn

Listed as one of our artists to watch in 2020, Camryn is back with a brand new single and producing pop for the cool kids. Marrying the use of instruments and production along with some kick-ass yet pretty deep lyrics, Camryn takes the issues that young adults are often faced with in terms of screwing up and created a pure banger. The song takes a different direction to her previous releases but is the kind of sound that suits her incredibly well as an artist. It’s the kind of song that was perfected to perform live and create a real atmosphere at any gig, so we’re super stoked to see future performances featuring the song!

‘Birds of Prey’ Official Soundtrack

The Birds Of Prey movie is now in theatres along with a killer soundtrack to go along with it! Birds of Prey: The Album perfectly goes with the mood and vibe of Harley Quinn. There are so many of our favorites featured, such as Halsey, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Normani, Lauren Jauregui, and more! We’ve all heard ‘Diamonds’ by our gals Meg & Normani; imagine how the rest of the tracks will sound. If you need to get yourself hyped before seeing Harley on the big screen, take a listen to this album and report back to us! It’s safe to say you won’t be disappointed.
