Welcome back to week three of The Rap-Up, where we give you the latest hip-hop/R&B releases from the past week. If you read our previous one, you’d know that last Friday was an amazing day for music. Will this week be just as amazing? Keep reading to find out!
Lil Uzi Vert: LUV vs. The World 2
Last week on The Rap-Up, we talked about Uzi’s new album Eternal Awake. This past Friday, Lil Uzi dropped the deluxe version of the album, which he also titled LUV vs. The World 2. The deluxe version has an additional 14 tracks, and rather than them being at the end of the album, he started the album with the new tracks. It is slightly considered a new project, after all. Full of unique beats and sounds, Lil Uzi never fails to disappoint when it comes to hearing something different. He also released a short film dedicated to Eternal Awake, and we hope to expect more visuals soon!

Lil Yachty: ‘Oprah’s Bank Account’ ft. Drake & DaBaby
After a long hiatus, Lil Yachty pops back into the Hip-hop community with his new single. This past Wednesday, he dropped ‘Oprah’s Bank Account,’ which features Drake and DaBaby. The music video is 9 minutes long, as it consists of a skit the whole time. Lil Yachty plays himself and “Boprah” (Get it?) who not only mimics Oprah’s ways but gives interviews to Drake, DaBaby, and himself. Each of them have an AHA moment, Drake’s being when he discusses his “LSC” (Light-skin capability), the next generation of rappers, and praising Lil Yachty for being at “the forefront of that movement of music that should be forgotten about.” DaBaby reveals to Boprah how good his life is and explains to her the art of making an album. Lil Yachty is expected to release his upcoming album Lil Boat 3 early this summer, and we’ll let you know as soon as we get more info!
Queen Naija: ‘Butterflies Pt. 2’
R&B singer Queen Naija released her new single ‘Butterflies Pt. 2’ this past Friday. If you need some slow, relaxing R&B that will also make you either crave a relationship or hate them, Queen Naija has the right vibes for you. Being with her boyfriend Clarence White for more than a year now, it helps describe her feelings and intimacy with him through a two-minute clip. And trust us when we say that we had heart-eyes the entire time. She also hinted that her debut album is coming very soon. Even though we could continue listening to her self-titled EP on loop, we will never turn down new music from her.
Lil Baby: ‘Grace’ ft. 42 Dugg
Lil Baby dropped the music video for ‘Grace’ from his #1 hit album My Turn. 14 tracks were charted simultaneously on Billboard Top 100 with over 197K albums sold. This marks the Atlanta native’s first number one album, as he achieved a milestone by tying with Prince and Paul McCartney for Billboard Hot 100 hits. He has accomplished a lot within three years, and he is going to grow into being one of the greatest names in rap of our generation.
KIANA LEDÉ: ‘Forfeit’ ft. Lucky Daye
Kiana Lede and fellow R&B artist Lucky Daye team up on her new single ‘Forfeit.’ A chill, relaxing track with a couple of high notes, we think it’s safe to say these two make a perfect collaboration. Kiana continues to rise in the R&B community, and she is scheduled to release her debut album KiKi on April 3rd. You can preorder it here! Not only is she releasing her first album, but she is also going on tour! She is touring Europe starting on May 21st in Oslo, Norway. Get ready to stream Kiki and buy your tickets! Currently sitting at over 3 million streams on Spotify, ‘Ice Cold’ is a song perfect for your chill rap playlist (You know, for vibey rap music). It is also the first single off his highly anticipated album K.I.S.S. 5, which doesn’t have a release date yet. When this hit-maker announces anything else in regards to the album, we’ll be the first to let you know!
Machine Gun Kelly: ‘Bullets With Names’ ft. Young Thug, RJMrLA, & Lil Duke
Machine Gun Kelly returns with his new single ‘Bullets With Names,’ which features Young Thug, RJMrLA, and Lil Duke. These four rappers brought fire and so much energy in this track, as it showcases all of their signature sounds together. It’s safe to say he also has a lot going for him this year, as he is preparing to release his upcoming LP Tickets To My Downfall later in the year. A successful and talented rapper, he is one of the many artists that helps bridge the gap between rap and pop-punk beautifully. But you already know that, right?

Darkovibes: ‘Inna Song (Gin & Lime)’ ft. King Promise
A new fun beat to vibe to with friends, ‘Inna Song (Gin & Lime)’ is fresh to you from Darkovibes featuring King Promise. Our legends from Ghana are out here representing and having a good time! No summer would be complete without a little fight between bros over a beach beauty. The visualizer for the song is a cute animation set on an island town with Darkovibes and King Promise stealing a girl back and forth. It’s the perfect song for that summer playlist you’re building.

Jada Michael: ‘Freak’
Miami-based singer Jada Michael releases the official video for her single ‘Freak.’ Originally released through V magazine, ‘Freak’ embraces intimacy and confidence. Jada Michael is a presentation for plus-sized women, LGBTQ+ women, and black women with her music screaming confidence. If you ever need to feel proud or confident in yourself, we’re sure Jada will get the job done for you! We love music that not only sounds good but also makes us feel good as well. “I hope the vibe and lyrics of ‘Freak‘ will put listeners in a mood to feel in touch with that fun and freedom. Imagine flirting on your boo, feeling like the baddest bitch in the universe and dancing like Teyana Taylor: that’s what I want for all my listeners.” Jada shares.
Col3trane: ‘Good News’
American-Egyptian artist Col3trane delivered us some good news this past Friday– he dropped his new single ‘Good News!’ Although his music doesn’t necessarily fit into one category, it has a mult-genre appeal, including elements of R&B, hip-hop, and smooth jazz. Sounds sexy, right? If you’re in love with this track, then you’re in luck! He is set to release his upcoming EP It’s Safer Inside, which is coming this Spring. The EP will consist of 7 tracks and will perfectly showcase what else he can do. We’re excited to hear more from such talent!

Jordan Hawkins: ‘Thankful’
Jordan Hawkins, who grew up in North Carolina but is based in LA, is a good ole’ southerner at heart who’s showing love for his roots. The music video for this is powerful, and it shows strength in the community and being supported. Premiered originally on Complex, ‘Thankful’ was sent on angels wings to us from Jordan Hawkins and Lish. Paying homage to where he started, Jordan makes a powerful performance that we’re sure his friends and family are proud of. Who wouldn’t be able to stan Jordan Hawkins? His angelic voice will compel you to listen to more.
daydream Masi: ‘So Much Pain’
Meet daydream Masi, an up and coming R&B artist who just released the music video for his single ‘So Much Pain.’ Grainy old school vibes and dated TV screens greet us first thing in this music video. Beautiful colors and searching for a purpose, ‘So Much Pain’ brings us into the life of a dreamer that’s down and out. As the camera takes us into a bar, we see our boys standing out, not being able to fit in. That can bring anyone down, yet we toil away for another day and another dollar.
MAETA: ‘Kind of Fool’
LA-based singer MAETA releases the music video for her single ‘Kind of Fool,’ which is also followed by the drop of her debut EP Do Not Disturb. Beautiful framing and a lens flair to start this mellow beat, Maeta serenades us in ‘Kind Of Fool’ while serving looks throughout the music video. Including a photoshoot full of beauties as she sings, the colors and tones are beautifully consistent making Maeta’s eyes pop. Earthy tones show us how she’s bringing herself back down from a high of changing for someone else. The best part is, that this story is to be continued. So why not keep ‘Kind of Fool’ on repeat, until the next piece of the storyline comes along.
