If you’re anything like us, you’ve already ran through your Netflix and Disney+ queues and are desperately searching for something new and exciting to watch. Or maybe you’ve given up and are watching The Office for the thousandth time — we don’t blame you. But we do have some exciting news to share that will make you think twice about hitting that “next episode” button.
Pixar’s newest film Onward will be available for digital purchase tonight March 20th ( 5:00PM PST/ 8:00PM) on Movies Anywhere in the US for only $19.99. And that’s not all, if you live in the US, Onward will also be joining Disney+ on April 3rd! Unfortunately, there’s no news about when our international brethren and sistren can view the film but we’re sure Pixar has something special for you all too just like Laurel had for Ian and Barley.
We’re so happy Pixar and Disney have decided to release Onward because so many people didn’t get a chance to see it in theaters and they’re seriously missing out.
Onward tells the magical and heartfelt story of two brothers Ian (Tom Holland) and Barley (Chris Pratt) who get the opportunity of a lifetime to spend one day with their father who passed away when Barley was young and before Ian was born. After Barley is unsuccessful at casting the magical spell, Ian tries his hand and is able to conjure up the spell but only enough for their father’s legs to appear. Determined to spend one day with their father, the boys set out on a quest with Barley’s mighty steed Guinevere to track down a jewel that will help them cast the spell one final time. But they only have 24 hours to do it.
Pixar says it best from there: “Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior – aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer) – and heads off to find them. Perilous curses aside, this one magical day could mean more than any of them ever dreamed.”
This isn’t exactly how Dan Scanlon (Director, “Onward”) and Kori Rae (Producer, “Onward”) hoped people would watch their film, but they are “pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes.”
So, what are you waiting for?
Let Pixar do what it does best and take you on a quest to a new world with beloved characters who will tug on your heart strings.
Make some popcorn, dim the lights, and silence those phones because it’s time to go on a magical quest with Onward.
We promise Onward is worth the $19.99 on Movies Anywhere or a subscription to Disney+. And if you’re still not convinced, check out the trailer:
