Fresh Music Friday: 5SOS, Little Mix, Hailee Steinfeld and MORE!

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

CALM – 5 Seconds of Summer

5SOS are back with the highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s Youngblood. CALM is the band’s fourth album release and sees the band finding real comfort in their sound. Gone are the days of pop-punk rebellion which is replaced with the more mature pop synth and anthemic melodies full of 80s revival. The band’s evolution in sound is evident in this latest record, packed full of diversity ranging in each of the 12 tracks The opening track ‘Red Desert’ sings about following your instincts towards situations in an anthemic banger, while ‘Lover Of Mine’ is a given a soft opener with a piano before dropping the beat at the most anticipated moment. CALM really is proof that 5SOS have come a long way since their humble YouTube beginnings and have done nothing but blossomed while perfecting their craft. The perfect album to self-isolate with.

‘Break Up Song’ – Little Mix

Little Mix have announced that a new era is pending and kicked it off with the 80s revival banger ‘Break Up Song’. Their first single since their Christmas bop and it’s full of upbeat retro synths which are sure to get you up on the dance floor (or living room in current situations). The post-relationship anthem sings about putting heartbreak behind you and feeling as though ending their relationship was the best decision made. We highly recommend the newly singles or those recovering from bad relationships to put this song on blast, let your hair down and just celebrate!

Future Nostalgia – Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa has dropped another slamming album full of bops! The title single ‘Future Nostalgia’ is so upbeat it’ll have you on your feet in seconds. Its a mixture of speaking and singing, which really makes it stand out and the lyric video is worth a watch too! Dua has outdone herself with creating a new sound, but keeping it upbeat, and funky gives it her signature edge. We are loving this new album and will be blasting it out over the next few weeks. She also live-streamed to her fans the release of the album and they are loving it as much as we are!

‘Dolerme’ – Rosalía

Back to rid us of the blues is our Spanish songbird Rosalía! ‘Dolerme’ starts with a sweet stripped-down guitar and vocals. The beats and the whole atmosphere feel super intimate. The lyrics are entirely in Spanish, the title translating roughly to ‘Hurt’. The image for the music video has a girl chilling with shades of blue that vibe to this song perfectly. The lyrics are poignant and transcend language.

‘I Love You’s’ – Hailee Steinfeld

‘I love you’s’ is Hailee Steinfeld‘s beautiful new song, but some eagle-eyed fans will notice that it is indeed very familiar, why you may ask? Because it is Hailee’s homage to the iconic ‘No More I Love You’s’ by none other than rock legend, Annie Lennox. Hailee really does it justice adding some upbeat melodies and modernizing it just slightly, giving a whole new generation access to this classic song. We are definitely going to have this song on repeat whilst we self-isolate. If we at Fresh Music Friday needed an anthem for self-love, this is 100% it!

‘Better Days’ – OneRepublic

This song is so relevant at the moment! Whilst we all sit at home wishing for “Better Days”, OneRepublic have released this absolute bop to help us get through the isolation. The upbeat melody and absolutely stunning vocals are just the remedy for the boredom. It will have you up on your feet, dancing around the house within the first few beats. It is pure class from OneRepublic, couldn’t have asked for more from this band. They have delivered!

‘Rest of My Life’ – Sigma feat. Shakka

This is the song of the year, don’t try to change our minds either. This dance-music duo has completely blown our minds with this track, as they combined dancehall and reggae to produce an upbeat love song, and we are listening on repeat already! It’s fun to dance to and has dynamic beats along with unforgettable lyrics that invite you to sing along from the very first note. Don’t even get us started on the outstanding vocals of Shakka because WOW, we could go on all day about how smooth and soulful his voice is. This banger is top of our playlists from here on out, and we look forward to what the rest of 2020 has in store for these artists!

바보라도 알아 (Even A Fool Knows) – Stray Kids

Stray Kids dropped the music video for Mixtape: On Track with the heartfelt ‘바보라도 알아 (Even A Fool Knows)’. It gives off the vibe of a youthful, high school drama featuring a love triangle between two friends who like the same girl. The emotional song, with a mix of hip – hop and a wistful, ballad style, was produced by Changbin, part of the rap line and producer trio of Stray Kids, 3RACHA. We at Fresh Music Friday are obsessed and can’t get enough!

‘Just A Boy’ – Alaina Castillo

The soft vocal-heavy start makes this song addicting from the get-go, it is very relatable and the vocals are simply striking, her voice is gorgeously smooth and unique. It’s almost like Alaina is trying to dive into the mind of a boy, by observing his mannerisms and is just pouring out her heart into this mesmerizing song. It is a must-listen and if it’s not on your playlists, you are missing out big time!

‘뜸 (Hold) – WINNER’

WINNER released ‘뜸 (Hold)’ a playful and romantic pre-release single featuring AKMU’s Soohyun as the sister of the members in the music video. We can’t get the chorus out of our heads and we’re sure you won’t either. The song was written by member MINO and co-composed by him and R.Tee and absolutely slaps!

‘Waste’ – LovelyTheBand

‘Waste’ is a total bop! From its techno beats to its unbelievable lyrics, it’s got the potential to be a big hit for LovelyTheBand! It’s easy to vibe with and dance around your house to as it overtakes your senses and sends you into a euphoric, indie-pop wonderland! We have yet to be disappointed by anything this band puts out and it looks like that streak will continue with this banger, and hopefully many more to come! Fresh Music Friday approved!

‘I’m Fine’ – mq X Loey

mq X Loey just released their latest project ‘I’m Fine’ on their Studio NNG YouTube channel and it is hands down the sweetest thing ever. The song is extremely soft, slow, and poignant, with lyrics that tell of loss, and how the presence of a loved one can still be felt all around them. Their memory continues to live on through everyday common objects and nature and is a testament to the fact that they will never be forgotten. Loey’s gentle vocals along with MQ’s refreshing rapping when paired together form a recipe for success. The track’s sentimental lyrics and comforting sounds will bring any listener to tears, while simultaneously providing a warm sense of peace.
