In a partnership with a humanitarian aid organization, Direct Relief, rock band, Shinedown are doing all they can to help get personal protective equipment to health workers responding to the cornoavirus.
The band has gone into their vault and given fans a new song called, ‘Atlas Falls’ that you can only listen to with the purchase of a special T-shirt that has 100% of its proceeds going to Direct Relief.
The song matches the time we are in well, as it gained its title and “inspiration from the Greek myth of Titan Atlas who carries a celestial sphere on his shoulders, the song is a reassuring anthem that if Atlas falls, we will hold each other up in times of strife.” Said the band in a recent press release.
Direct Relief is “one of the largest providers of humanitarian medical resources in the world operating in the U.S. and in more than 100 countries around the world” and Shinedown has already donated $20,000 to help start off the campaign! The funding raised will allow medical professionals in the US and worldwide to have access to protective equipment and essential medical items, including protective masks, exam gloves, and isolation gowns.
“I have always said and believe to be true that music can heal us all. We need music, and each other, now more than ever as we all are witnessing a global pandemic unlike anything we have ever seen in many generations,” said Shinedown frontman, Brent Smith. “Myself, Barry, Zach, Eric, and our Shinedown family want the entire world to know that we are in this together, and we must all do our part and continue to encourage love, respect and taking care of each other.”
The shirts depict this message perfectly, with lyrics from the new track on the back, “Don’t give up now / There’s already so much at stake /If Atlas falls, I’ll rise up and carry us all the way.”
