Welcome back to The Rap Up, where we at The Honey POP put you on with the newest Hip-hop/R&B releases! If you take a look back on the past Rap Ups in March, you will see that they are all full of bops. We’re excited for the releases we will get throughout the month. But for now, let today’s Rap Up give you April’s newest releases!
Drake: ‘Toosie Slide’
A new dance has just gone viral all thanks to the legend himself, Drake. It’s only been a few days since Drake released a new video for his single ‘Toosie Slide,’ and there are already thousands of videos doing the challenge. If you want to learn the dance, the video is attached above! Let’s give a huge thank you to Drake for keeping us entertained during self-isolation! Learn it while you’re at home with your family or roommate, and be sure to share it with us; perhaps we’ll repost. 😉

Frank Ocean: ‘Cayendo (Side A- Acoustic)’ & ‘Dear April (Side A- Acoustic)’
Fans are raving over Frank’s Spanish in ‘Cayendo’ (including us). Don’t get it twisted, though, he still came through in ‘Dear April’ where he talks about a relationship that will never be the same. ‘Cayendo,’ on the other hand, describes the feeling of falling. Never failing to leave them in their feelings, his emotional ballads are getting fans even more hyped up for his next project. Although no announcement or date has been set, it is safe to assume that all the singles dropped so far are connected to a mysterious project. It’s official; April has started off the right way!

Rod Wave: Pray 4 Love
Rapper & singer Rod Wave finally dropped his highly anticipated album Pray 4 Love. After spending the past few months teasing fans with singles, it’s finally out! Composed of 14 tracks, Rod Wave shows off his ability to switch back and forth between vocals and raps, and we can’t forget the emotional range he embraces throughout. Along with the drop of his album, he also released the music video for ‘The Greatest,’ which is also featured on the project. Rod Wave is a rising artist who is slowly taking over the Hip-Hop industry. We won’t be surprised by his future success; he brings a new, different sound into the industry.

Kiana Lede: KIKI
Our queen Kiana Lede finally dropped her sophomore album KIKI. Released on her birthday (Happy belated, love!), the album consists of 17 tracks with features such as Lucky Daye, 6LACK, Ari Lennox, and more! If you’re an R&B baby, this is not the album to miss out on. We know from the second she released ‘Mad at Me’ that her album was going to be killer. Along with the drop of her album, she also released the video for her track ‘Chocolate,’ which features fellow R&B babe Ari Lennox. It’s also the first music video shot on facetime (with the pandemic and self-isolating going on). Now, this is what we like to see; new, creative concepts while we’re all still stuck at home.

Thundercat: It Is What It Is
R&B artist Thundercat released his album It Is What It Is this past Friday as well, and we promise it will give you all the R&B vibes you need (with additional jazz & afro-funk vibes). An artist that is truly underrated, Thundercat created this project with unique production and sound. If you need music to dance to, or music that will somehow connect you back to music from the 70s & 80s, this is it. With 15 tracks of goodness, and features such as Louis Cole, Ty Dolla $ign, and Childish Gambino, this album will make you feel like you are floating.

EarthGang: ‘LaLa Challenge’
Rap duo Earthgang has collabed with Strangeloop Studios to create a series of animated videos for their album Mirrorland! This past Friday, they just released their first installment of the series titled ‘LaLa Challenge.’ Inspired by the 1978 film The Wiz, ‘LaLa Challenge’ gives you an inside look of the magical world of Mirrorland. We appreciate how creative the duo is, and we can’t wait to see the rest of the visuals they have come up with!

Rich The Kid: ‘Stuck Together’ ft Future & Lil Baby
Rich The Kid released a new version of his track ‘Stuck Together,’ which is featured on his most recent album BOSS MAN. The originally released track only featured Lil Baby, but the newer version also features Future. We all know the original with Lil baby was already fire, but Future’s feature made the flames even more intense, am I right?

Darkovibes released his new album Kpanlogo this week. Full of bops, the album features artists who are considered some of Africa’s finest musicians such as Mr. Eazi, Joey B, King Promise, and more! It’s a fun, catchy blend of hip-hop, rap, and trap, and he makes sure that it reflects his heritage as a Ghanaian artist. Yet another artist to thank for giving us some music to dance to while we’re still in quarantine. Afro-beats is a must-have when it comes to throwing a killer party, and since we can’t do that right now, the only choice is to throw your own in your living room!

Rising South Carolina artist Cannon released his new single ‘CONVERSATIONS,’ which is a perfect blend of R&B and Indie. Although it’s a killer bop, it does have its deep meaning behind it. ‘Conversations’ is about ignoring the personal issues and emotions we deal with; sometimes it appears easier to look for quick fixes rather than dealing with it the right way. Sid Tipton: ‘OMG u ain’t shit’
Contemporary R&B artist Sid Tipton recently released her new single ‘OMG u ain’t shit.’ A song that will give you the feeling of floating (the feeling we all adore), the single was written when she felt like she lost who she really was; this song focuses more on self-empowerment and self-love. Signed with Timberland’s publishing company, Bluestone, and having writing and singing experience since she was 3, we know Sid Tipton will only grow bigger from here!
