Every generation has their fantasy story they hold near and dear to their hearts. For some its Harry Potter, others, its Lord of the Rings, or maybe even Percy Jackson. The fantasy world is about to get shaken up though, because launching on Disney+ on June 12th is Disney’s take on Artemis Fowl.
Perhaps, you’re already familiar with Artemis Fowl and have read the epic young adult book series of the same name written by Eoin Colfer. If you’re not, then you’re about to be surprised that you haven’t heard of this amazing story sooner.
The film, which is directed by Kenneth Branagh (director of Thor and Cinderella), follows Artemis (Ferdia Shaw), a 12-year-old genius who comes from a long line of criminal masterminds, as he wages war against powerful underground fairies to find his father who has been kidnapped. Along the way, Artemis must infiltrate the fairy world and bring them the “Aculos,” the most powerful and coveted magical object of all time. Of course, finding the Aculos is a dangerous task that requires enormous amounts of wit. Thankfully, Artemis is on the case!

While releasing a a “big cinema-sized experience” to the small screen isn’t the best situation, Branagh and Disney know the film will bring magic and happiness to families who are stuck at home.
