The Rap Up: Your Weekly Dose of Hip-hop!

Welcome back to the Rap Up, where we give our fellow hip-hop heads and R&B babies their weekly dose of new releases every Sunday! We have a bunch of music to share with you in this week’s article, so we hope you’re ready! You’re not gonna want to miss out of this week’s Rap Up!

DaBaby: BLAME IT ON BABY

DaBaby dropped his new album BLAME IT ON THE BABY this past Friday, which consists of 13 tracks and many features with Quavo, Future, Roddy Ricch, NBA Youngboy, and more. We think it’s clear that 2019 was easily DaBaby’s year. Releasing two albums in the same year, he had a large number of singles that made up the highlight of 2019 (‘Suge,’ ‘BOP,’ ‘VIBEZ,’ etc). He continues to grind even during the COVID-19 pandemic, hence the cover art and the release date. There’s no doubt that DaBaby practically lives in the studio, and who knows? Maybe we’ll get a second album this year as well.

Playboi Carti: ‘@ MEH’

After nearly two years of fans wondering where he has gone, Playboi Carti came back with his new single ‘@ MEH’ this Friday. With a simple music video directed by Nick Walker and Carti himself, he uses this single to step back in the industry. All we can do is hope that he releases more music over quarantine. Let’s face it: it is what we all need at this point, and Playboi Carti could help heighten our spirits with his fire beats.

Kid Cudi: ‘Leader of the Delinquents’

Kid Cudi has also been gone for a minute but returns with his new single ‘Leader of the Delinquents.’ Although he released KIDS SEE GHOSTS a couple years back with Kanye West, and has featured on Travis Scott’s ‘STOP TRYING TO BE GOD,’ this is Kid Cudi’s first single project since his 2016 album Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin’. The sound of the track sounds different compared to his last two albums, and we hope this single gives us an idea of how his seventh album, Entergalactic, will sound.

EARTHGANG: ‘Avenue’

EARTHGANG is back with their second installment of animated videos. For their second video, they released a visual for their song ‘Avenue,’ which is also off of their debut album Mirrorland. It seems that the rap duo is planning to release a visual for each track on the album, so keep on the lookout for the rest of them! We’ll be here to remind you in case you forget. 😉

Rappers Moneybagg Yo and Blac Youngsta come together to give us the music video for their single ‘123.’ Featured off of his album Time Served, Moneybagg Yo is back with more music after his previous album 43VA HEARTLESS. Based on the rave he received for his past project, there is no doubt in mind that 2020 will also be a great year for the rapper!

K Camp & Quavo: ‘Lottery (Renegade) QUAVO Remix’

K Camp collabs with Quavo to give us a new remix to his previously released single ‘Lottery (Renegade).’ Known to be one of the most-used songs on Tik Tok (with over 33 million videos and 6 billion views), ‘Lottery’ is given an extra twist with Quavo’s new feature. Who knows? Maybe Jalaiah Harmon, the creator of the Renegade dance, will come up with another challenge for this remix! Along with the drop off the remix, we’re also here to remind you that his new album K.I.S.S 5 comes out this coming Friday on April 24th!

Until then, you can stream ‘Lottery’ ft Quavo on all platforms here!

Malachiae: ‘Bedroom to a Club’

Atlanta-based R&B singer Malachiae released his new music video for his single ‘Bedroom to a Club.’ All we had throughout the entire video were heart eyes, as the video surrounds the romance of a couple growing intimate with each other. “This video represents hard-working women all around the world who just wants to be loved and praised for their efforts,” says Malachiae. “As the world is changing by the day, I hope this video inspires us all to love on one another more.” Recently, Malachiae has also performed at TRILLERFEST, which is one of the largest, virtual music festivals to help raise money for those affected by COVID-19. Stan a king who’s not only talented but who also helps those in need!

Tiana Major9: ‘Think About You (Notion Mix)’

Tiana Major9 dropped a remix of her single ‘Think About You.’ A modern sound with noticeable influences, this remix highlights her reggae sounds with a mix of sounds that will have you ready to dance! If you’re in love with this track like we are, then you will be happy to know that the track will be featured on her upcoming EP. Tiana Major9 is definitely an artist crucial for your playlist, as her soothing vocals give you the true R&B spirit you need.

Joseph Black: ‘(i hope you) miss me’

Joseph Black dropped the lyric video for his single ‘(i hope you) miss me.’ In a melodic rap, he shares how distraught he feels after breaking up with his ex-girlfriend. A sound with originality but still fits the modern sound of rap, Joseph Black is definitely worth putting on your playlist. We hope he comes back with more music because we can’t get enough!

Chin Injeti: ‘Falling’

3-time GRAMMY-winning producer Chin Injeti drops his new single ‘Falling,’ which follows up his previously released track ‘Serious.’ This track relates to the death of his father and how he dealt with the grief. The overall song is about how it’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to fall apart, to let your emotions take over you. Immerse yourself into the song by closing your eyes and blasting the volume; it’d be hard not to with the meaning and production of the track.

Zheani: ‘DIRTBIKE’

Australian artist and rapper Zheani released her new single and music video for ‘DIRTBIKE.’ Known for combining rap with elements of industrial metal, Zheani uses ‘DIRTBIKE’ to reflect on her past. It depicts a larger story, as it mentions the relationship between her mother and her boyfriend along with her father’s use of drugs. The imagery of the video illustrates her struggles and coping with her inner demons. Zheani is definitely an artist that will have endless stories and meaning behind her music.

Laolu: ‘Indulge’

R&B artist Laolu releases her new single ‘Indulge,’ which is an essential track for any love/date night playlists you may have. The slow, vibey tune talks of lust and desire throughout. “It’s about having a relationship with someone that is almost forbidden,” Laolu explains, “you know the person is no good, but you are craving them because of how they make you feel when you’re together.” First finding music at the age of 12, Laolu turned it into a passion and art, and we can’t wait to see where it takes her!

Lola Young: ‘None For You’

From her upcoming EP, Renaissance, Lola Young performs her original song ‘None For You’ at London’s V&A Museum. It is also the first video to ever be filmed there! The original song contains a soulful mix of Jazz and R&B, and we can still hear the passion in her voice through this moving performance. “‘None For You’ is about a relationship where you no longer have time for a person after they did you ‘dirty.’ Lola says, ‘This song is about pain and loss, but also about choosing to love yourself instead of that person.” We can only imagine how the rest of her EP will sound (That is, until April 28th)!

North Carolina native DeweyQuinton drops his new track ‘American Lust.’ There’s no denying the beautiful and catchy production behind it, nor is there denying the vibes it gives us. “’American Lust’ is everything we love and fear,” says DeweyQuinton.”I want listeners to enjoy this track while sipping a glass of wine amidst the city lights with his or her beloved, especially during this time in the world…” It’s been confirmed by the artist himself; this song is meant for playlists that you play while kicking back with a glass of wine.
