April has proved to be a busy month in the world of kpop, with multiple groups having comebacks. One of these groups is CRAVITY, who have officially made their debut this month with their first comeback on April 14th. The nine-member rookie group, consisting of members, Serim, Allen, Jungmo, Woobin, Wonjin, Minhee, Hyeongjun, Taeyoung, and Seongmin, is the newest group from Starship Entertainment. If Starship sounds familiar, it’s because they are also the company that Monsta X is signed with; CRAVITY is the first boy group to debut from Starship since Monsta X debuted back in 2015.
Let’s Break All The Rules
The lead single, ‘Break All The Rules’, gives a powerful first impression in what CRAVITY has to offer. It’s a song that gets stuck in your head in the best way and has you playing it on repeat on your playlist. It makes you feel that you are powerful when you listen to it, which is the goal that CRAVITY hopes to achieve with their music.
Rapper and Leader of the group, Serim, describes this perfectly by saying, “the album encompasses tremor of excitement, and our desire to give delight and comfort to our fans.” The music video is nearing 10 million views at the time of this article, and it delivers a strong message to those who watch it. Each member gets their moment in the spotlight, and the visuals are captivating. In terms of a debut single, “Break All The Rules” has all the ingredients needed to make listeners explore the group further.
A Message From CRAVITY
The message that CRAVITY tries to show in their debut album, overall, is one we can all use -hope. Through the seven songs included on their album, the boys are able to convey this message, not only to their fans but also to one another. The nine members are on this new journey together, and with that comes a whirlwind of emotions.
These emotions are poured out into each song on CRAVITY‘s debut album, CRAVITY SEASON1 [HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE]. Songs, such as ‘JUMPER,’ have quickly become a stand out among the track-list and was gifted to the group by Monsta X member, Joohoney. When it came to writing the song, Joohoney expressed that, “I personally tried hard to highlight the strengths of the members while producing songs. It’s even more meaningful for me to be in charge of producing the members’ debut album.”
A Journey Through Different Music Styles
Listeners go on this journey with CRAVITY through the different music styles, such as Rock to Pop to Trap, and ending sweetly with the R&B/Pop track, ‘Star.’ The message for this song is one that many new artists have entering this industry; it is the hope to be a ‘star’ and a light for your fans, making the message of this album come full circle.
CRAVITY has absolutely impressed with this debut album. If this is how their first album is, then we’re definitely excited for what the future holds for these boys and wish them luck.
Congratulations on your debut CRAVITY!
