SuperM took to the virtual stage this past weekend in the first concert of the Beyond LIVE series. Taking place on the V LIVE app, over 75,000 people paid to tune into the revolutionary concert event. The viewers represented 109 countries, giving the group’s livestream 120 million ‘hearts’ (or likes), during the two-hour performance. Here, we’ve compiled some of our favorite moments from watching SuperM make even more history with this concert.
The Solo Performances
Fans who saw SuperM on tour would be more than familiar with the setlist that could be expected for this show. From Ten giving a breathtaking performance of ‘Dream in a Dream’ and ‘New Heroes’, to Lucas hyping up viewers at home with “Bass Go Boom’, all the boys captivated fans in their own ways.
However, some members threw in a few surprises during their solo performances. While Taemin performed songs such as ‘DANGER’ while on tour, he treated the online audience to fan-favorite songs ‘WANT’ and ‘MOVE.’ Kai also had a treat for fans; while on tour, he only performed his song ‘Confession,’ he decided to do a surprise performance of ‘Spoiler,’ which he had posted on his Instagram back in February.
SuperM Provided New Songs and Album Spoilers
Fans also got some spoilers on new songs for SuperM’s next album. The boys sang snippets of three songs, ‘We Go Hundred,’ ‘Drip,’ and “Line ‘Em Up,’ and then treated viewers to a full performance of the new song ‘Tiger Inside.’ This performance was a great showcase of the AR technology that was used throughout the concert, as virtual tigers were running across the screen, only adding to the performance. However, for fans watching, the winner of this segment was Taeyong and his now-famous “vroom vroom’ and ‘growl,’ which we can’t wait to get a studio version of.
This was much more than your average concert. Besides singing, the group also took time to interact with fans by reading comments being left on the stream and also taking fan questions via video chat. Around 160 fans were chosen to be in a live virtual audience that surrounded the boys as they performed, with seven lucky fans picked to ask one member a question.
Also, in this virtual audience were members of the girl group Red Velvet, who chimed in to say hello. While fans watching were excited to see the girls, something else caught fan attention. Baekhyun, the leader of SuperM, was confused when the girls first began talking, as their faces weren’t on the screen yet, and ended up asking if it was his mom who was trying to join the broadcast.
The Group That Keeps Making History
These funny little moments, including Mark asking fans about their WiFi connection, made the concert even more personal and entertaining to the fans. SuperM delivered a fantastic performance, but they also should be praised in how they handled being the first group to kick off this series and perform with a new form of AR technology.
We want to say congratulations to SuperM on a history-making performance and a thank you for giving fans a few hours to enjoy ourselves, even though we can’t meet in person at this time.
