To Write Love On Her Arms

The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and To Write Love on Her Arms (TWOLA) has a plan. Their third annual Black & White campaign is now a go. This year the campaign will revolve around three statements they decided they will throw their all behind, “We Need Your Presence, Not Your Perfection,” “Hope Remains,” and “No One Else Can Play Your Part.” There are shirts, blog posts, minisodes on their podcast, and so much more throughout all of May. Check their blog every Monday and Tuesday that will explore mental health challenges. On top of all that, TWOLA’s 8th Annual Run For It, 5k will be held on May 16th and is open for registration.

Billy Raffoul

On April 14th, Billy Raffoul’s Still Distancing Tour kicked off with special guest Alec Chambers. Having to be creative due to the postponement of the West Coast run of his A Few More Hours At… 2020 North American Tour, he decided to have a virtual tour. Throughout April, various guests appeared on “tour” with Billy while in isolation. Using the internet, he was able to express and share in his joy of music with many fans, while having a lot of fun. He released an EP A Few More House at YYZ early in April. You can get his EP right here, right now, and be on the lookout for rescheduled tour dates.

Point North

As if we needed another reason to stan Point North, the band has launched a new fundraising challenge benefitting the charity No Kid Hungry. They will be donating $10,000 to the cause! They will donate the first $1,000 and will match each $1,000 along the way until they have donated the full $10,000. The campaign aims to raise $20,000 for the charity. This will benefit kids in need, who now have no food due to school closures caused by the pandemic. $10 equals roughly 100 meals for kids in need, so just imagine what $20,000 could do! This is an amazing cause, and we love to see our faves supporting it!

Jack Johnson

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with music? Jack Johnson held a live stream festival Earth Day weekend in support of the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation and Covid-19 relief efforts. April 25th, Jack appeared on the Amazon Music Twitch channel. The foundation encourages and provides environmental education and was started by Kim and Jack Johnson. The aim is to donate a portion of funds raised to food and sustainability programs and projects in Hawaii.

Kate Tempest

Kate Tempest is a musician that’s been around since 2011. On April 22nd, she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform her song ‘People’s Faces.’ The song is off of her 2019 album The Book of Traps & Lessons. She performed remotely from her home in London, along with her collaborator and pianist Dan Carey. It was a powerful performance of the spoken word poem ‘People’s Faces.’ You can discover and rewatch the performance on YouTube. Go get inspired!

Gerry Cinnamon

Gerry Cinnamon’s newest album, The Bonny, debuted as number one on the UK and Ireland Album Charts. With the singles pre-release reaching 53 million streams, it just goes to show this was a highly anticipated album. The songs are explorative and captivating, helping us dream of days ahead with commentary on society and other factors we face. Released on April 17th with 12 songs, it’s a wonderful listen. The album is available on vinyl, digital, cassette, and CD.

Hailee Steinfeld

We didn’t think we could love Hailee Steinfeld more, until now! She has a new project on the way, and part 1 is titled ‘Half-written story’, it features 8 new tracks, including newly released singles, “wrong direction” and ‘I love you’s,’ which she recently performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The project drops on May 8th, and one thing is for sure, There is nothing half-assed about this project; it’s going to be unmissable!

Joe Trohman

Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy has announced a new animated cartoon, entitled Mondo Trasho 3042. It’s an animated show about a band from the future. It was created by Joe Trohman, Wade Randolph & Spencer Berman. It’s produced by Crush Pictures and is scored by Patrick Stump and Joe himself, and produced by Pete Wentz. He’s decided to share it with the world during this difficult time, so for your viewing pleasure, you can stream all ten episodes here! We know you’re gonna love it!

Pearl Jam

Fans of the influential grunge band Pearl Jam will have a new way to experience the band’s eleventh studio album Gigaton thanks to a collaboration between Apple TV and Evolve Studios. The special audio-visual event presents the band’s Gigaton album with new 4K ultra-vivid visuals and immersive audio courtesy of revolutionary technologies developed by Dolby. The Gigaton Visual Experience will take place exclusively in the Apple TV app, and will be free for 7 days beginning April 24th for iPhone, iPod touch, and Mac users. Purchase options are also available following the limited event, but take it from us at The Honey Pop, The Gigaton Visual Experience is not to miss! You can watch it here!

In other Pearl jam related news, their album Gigaton has been out since March 27th and has already turned out promising stats, so much so, that it debuted as #1 Rock Album on the Rock albums charts! On top of that, it hit the Billboard 200 chart at #5. The band has been rocking for quite a while, and it’s great to see that these guys still got itGigaton has been described as the “peak of progression.” Even Rolling Stones gave it a rave review. We don’t know about you, but we’re loving this fusion spanning over multiple generations.
