Loneliness is a feeling that existed before quarantine and will continue to exist after it ends. This new track from Sheppard, ‘Come Back,’ is all about the loneliness that comes from being isolated from the ones you love. Frontman George Sheppard may have written the track in 2019 but it’s all too relevant in our current situation.
The song came into existence during a solo writing trip taken by George Sheppard. He received a call from her after a long, bad day, and he wanted nothing more than to hug her. That’s where ‘Come Back’ was born. Not only was it a song meant for her, as a sort of “hold on until I’m back” pick me up, but it also describes how important a physical human connection is.
Give the song a listen here:
We’re all probably feeling this song a little too hard right now. Zoom and Facetime calls that go on for hours are great, but nothing beats the feeling of physical proximity.. Spending time with a significant other in person, hugging your friends and crowding around the table at a restaurant, these are all important parts of human connection.
The song is uplifting, both in it’s sound and in it’s message. It’s a comforting track that can help you feel a little less alone in the face of isolation. Just do what we’re doing! Imagine that the person you’re missing the most right now is singing it to you, offering you the love and support you need. It’s like they’re reminding you to “come back” down to earth in the face of your problems. They may not be with you physically, but they’re still there to talk. Trust us, you’ll feel a lot better.
The sound and tempo of this song alone are enough to lift your spirits, it’s a feel good song overall. It makes you feel like everything is going to be okay, and that’s the point! Even if the person you miss isn’t with you physically, they’re still cheering you on and giving you love and support. Eventually, you will see that person again, Sheppard just wants you to hold on until then.
Sheppard has been releasing tracks on a month by month basis, all leading up to a big release in 2020. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next! Until then though, if you need us we’ll just be listening to ‘Come Back’ on repeat hehe.
