The Rap Up Never Stops Bringing The Heat!

The Rap Up Never Stops Bringing The Heat!

Welcome back to the Rap Up, where we give you the hottest hip-hop/R&B releases from the past week! We think last week could be one of the best weeks in May, but we do have one more week until June arrives!

Are you ready for new music?

Gunna: WUNNA

Gunna released his new album WUNNA, which is an acronym for ‘Wealthy N*gga Naturally Authentic.’ Not only has the cover art gone viral on Twitter as a new meme, but the tracks on this album slap! I think we all remember his previous projects Drip Or Drown 2, and Drip Harder which feature the singles all of us should know by now (‘Baby Birkin,’ ‘Drip Too Hard,’ etc.); Could we really expect less from WUNNA? The entire album is composed of different production and flow in each track; variety is the number one thing that makes any good project.

Migos & YoungBoy Never Broke Again: ‘Need It’

Migos is back with their third single of 2020! The rap trio teamed up with fellow rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again. Everything about this song is fire: the beat, the bass, the verses– all of it! We are truly hoping that we get another album from Migos, as it has been almost two years since the drop of their previous album Culture II (which was full of many hit singles). We hope to hear more from this group very soon!

Dreamville: ‘Don’t Hit Me Right Now’

Dreamville released the music video for their single ‘Don’t Hit Me Right Now,’ which is featured on their most recent compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers III. ‘Don’t Hit Me Right Now’ featured Bas, Cozz, Guapdad 4000, Yung Baby Tate, and Buddy. Debuted at #1 and GRAMMY-nominated for Best Rap Album, ROTD3 is RIIA-certified platinum. We expect nothing less from this talented group of artists!

Sammy Johnson: ‘Amazing’

Here to give us an old-school, R&B sound, Sammy Johnson released his new single ‘Amazing,’ which accurately describes what we think about the song, too! We cannot get enough of the variety in his vocals– let alone the raw emotions we hear all throughout. “I feel so blessed to have grown up in an era where vocals, harmonies, and vocal arrangements were everything,” Johnson says, “I remember the feeling of hearing K-Ci & JoJo’s soulful ballads and Mary J Blige’s raw emotions in her vocals, it’s just not done like that anymore.”

Sinéad Harnett: ‘Quarantine Queen’

R&B-Soul singer Sinéad Harnett released her new single and video for ‘Quarantine Queen.’ The video was filmed and produced by her, and the song was written during her time in quarantine. We’re deeply in love with her voice, as it never fails to give us chills! It has also been said that we can expect her sophomore album later on this year! Who wouldn’t want to listen to these angelic vocals? We could listen for ages.

Fat Yunginn & Yella Breezy: ‘Show My A**’

Recently signed to Cash Money Records’ roster of talented artists, Fat Yunginn released his debut single ‘Show My Ass,’ which shows just how different his flow and sound is from other rappers. Co-Founder of Cash Money Records, Ronald “Slim” Williams, said that “The first time I heard him, I knew I was listening to a superstar. It’s exciting to work with him!” We have no doubt about it, as he could become the newest edition in the Rap industry, and we’ll definitely stay tuned for his upcoming album that’s in the works!

Malia Civetz: ‘Heart Broke’

Rising pop/R&B singer Malia Civetz gives us range and runs in her stripped-down performance for her single ‘Heart Broke.’ With her powerhouse vocals and catchy production, many listeners have compared her to GRAMMY Award-winning pop star Lizzo. Expressing body positivity and sex-positivity, Malia Civetz is a rising artist that will bring even more influence and confidence to women everywhere.

Myles Castello: ‘Blue’

Myles Castello is an R&B singer on the rise who just released his new single ‘Blue.’ The song talks of the post-break up stage, where everything feels dull and doesn’t feel the same as it was before. Although the meaning behind it seems a little sad, the music video paired with it will both motivate you and make you wish you were in a relationship. Nevertheless, ‘Blue’ is a great song to vibe to, and its relaxing melody is perfect to chill to.

T R U V O N N E: ‘Coffee and Cigarettes’

Truvonne is breaking barriers and creating her own sound! ‘Coffee and Cigarettes is out of this world, as it combines a smooth, R&B sound with relaxing, electronic elements. In a way, the sound could almost be compared to the singing duo, Oh Wonder. Beginning with deep guitar strings followed by a sensual raspy voice, the song tells the ending of an intimate relationship.
