Fresh Music Friday: Chloe X Halle, Seventeen, Lauv, and MORE!

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

Ungodly Hour – Chloe X Halle

Chloe x Halle are back with their new album Ungodly Hour! This iconic duo is required on your playlist, as this album is full of nothing but eargasming harmonies and beats that are perfect for a party. Ungodly Hour has a more different and diverse sound compared to The Kids Are Alright, and we can hear just how much they have grown musically. These two women have so much going for them in the future. Both are stars on Freeform’s Grown-ish, and Halle Bailey is going to be our next Little Mermaid, does it get any better than this?

‘My My’ – Seventeen

Heading on a long journey in your flying trailer? Be sure you have your jam, marshmallows, and a couple of alpacas(?) Seventeen’s comeback is quickly approaching (June 22nd) and they have surprised us with a new song and music ‘My My’, which they have been teasing all week. The choreography looks very cute, the vocals are on point & the lyrics are seriously inspiring. A quick rundown: Vernon is making jam, Scoups is feeding alpacas and the group is either relaxing or dancing on the flying trailer or by the pool. As the video comes to an end, the group is now done with their jam and essentially have reached the destination they were dreaming of. We can’t get enough of it at Fresh Music Friday!

This single will be available for streaming and purchase soon

I Miss You and Workout W Lauv – Lauv

After slowly building his career over five years, Lauv is undoubtedly one of our favs. So when we at Fresh Music Friday found out he’d be releasing a bunch of ‘vibe curated’ EP’s we were screaming with excitement. His two latest include ‘I Miss You ’ and ‘Workout W Lauv’. If soft boi pining is your thing then we recommend finding a dark room and playing ‘I Miss You’ while the tears flow. Or, if you’re more of a sporty type or just want something upbeat then ‘Workout W Lauv’ doesn’t fail to provide the bops and tunes.

MTV Unplugged – Liam Gallagher

Britpop legend and our favorite Gallagher brother (sorry Noel) Liam Gallagher has just dropped his MTV Unplugged live album. Feel like jamming out to some of his and Oasis’s biggest tunes? This is what you need. Alternatively, if you’re just looking to feel like you’re at a show right now then this is just the ticket too. Some of our particular favorite tunes include ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Sad Song’, and the masterpiece ‘Champagne Supernova’. We’re pretending we’re at a concert here at Fresh Music Friday!

Awaken The World – WayV

At last, the long-awaited WayV comeback is here! Awaken The World was released this week, and it’s lead single ‘Turn Back Time’ is not only powerful to listen to, but also to watch. The music video adds to the edginess, and Rock feels we get when listening to the song. Not only is ‘Turn Back Time’ a hit, but it blends perfectly with the other nine songs you’ll find on the C-Pop group’s album. The Rock sounds transition perfectly to ‘Bad Alive’ and then leads to more sultry songs such as ‘After Midnight’. Fan-favorite ‘Electric Hearts’ gives us Pop while ‘Stand By Me’ brings you back to the 90’s boyband era with its sound. While they are flowing together, each song has its own personality, making this album one with definitely no skips. WayV are a must for you to check out, we promise you won’t regret it!

‘Thick’ – Keke Palmer

Our queen Keke Palmer has just dropped (yet another) banger. ‘Thick’ is set to soundtrack our best hot girl summers and we’re so here for it. By a mile, our favourite thing about this track is its flow. Think iced tea by the pool with your gal pals while you’re all living your best body positive lives! So if that’s tickled your fancy, we hope you love this track just as much as us.

Crybaby – Lil Peep

This week it’s been four years since Lil Peep first released his Crybaby mixtape on Soundcloud. Less than two years later, he tragically passed away. But thanks to the tireless work from his mother Liza Womack and his estate, ‘Crybaby’ has finally made its way to mainstream streaming platforms. Peep was most famous for his creativity and the way he merged different genres together often resulting in epic tracks like ‘yesterday’ which includes riffs and choruses from Oasis’s hit ‘Wonderwall’. Despite one track’s sample being declined, it’s an EP that is sure to ignite nostalgia for Peep’s fans both old and new.

Be Kind (Surf Mesa Remix) – Marshmello

We all know ‘Be Kind’ by Marshmello and Halsey. An epic testament to the love and kindness we need to keep alive. Now we get an all-new remix. We pick up the pace and add an almost desperate yearning. The Surf Mesa Remix is the perfect dance meets EDM. Grab someone you love and be kind. This music will definitely inspire that feeling with bubbly notes and swelling beats. We at Fresh Music Friday can’t get enough!

‘Wait For You’ – Tom Walker

Since winning ‘Best Breakthrough’ at The Brit Awards last year, Tom Walker has gone from strength to strength. His latest track ‘Wait For You’ is no exception. One of our favorite things about Walker is his velvet-smooth voice and this track is full of them. We’re also in awe of this track’s message. Tom Walker fans will be no stranger to some tear-jerking lyrics but ‘Wait For You’ is a little different. Instead, it’s written about one of Walker’s friends and it’s full hope. So despite our tears, this is one track we’ll be blasting anyway.

‘Take Care of You’ – Ella Henderson

Ella Henderson is a name we all know for her stellar breakout single ‘Ghost’ but after switching record labels she’s back with a bang. ‘Take Care of You’ is a certified summer hit and we can’t help but have a groove to its catchy choruses. With a dance beat so strong it will have you partying late into the night, ‘Take Care of You’ is a big yes from us!

Give us another slow dance piano serenade, please. This one is courtesy of Sigma & John Newman. Their latest hit is called ‘High On You’ and we gotta admit we’re feeling it’s something heavy. The piano dances light and upbeat with a forlorn outreaching vocal track. With all the tell tales of a typical pop song (we’re talking refrains) but bringing in some fresh arrangements that leave us wanting more. Go find your love of life again, ‘High On You’ is pretty infectious.

‘If You Had My Love (Cyber Jungle Remix)’ – JLO

Time to revisit an old skool bop, with a refreshing new twist in the form of its Cyber Jungle remix. This song has always slayed and with a new vibrant infusion of a modern twist has had a new life injected into it. And we are simply LIVING for it!

‘National Anthem’ – DE’WAYNE

Fans of De’Wayne may have seen him perform this song when he toured with none other than Waterparks on their 2019/2020 Fandom Tour. This song holds a powerful ever so relevant message, that we should all take in an absorb. Speaking about the track De’Wayne says, “‘National Anthem’ represents the America I have always experienced. I wrote this song in 2019 and performed it out all over the country on tour last year. I watched beautiful, mixed crowds made up of so many different types of people RAGE to this in UNITY. I had planned on releasing this at a future date, but I’m taking the most recent (and recurring) event as a sign that the world needs this right fucking now.” The release of this song came at one of the most crucial times. Music speaks and we need to be listening.
