Just when you think you’ve watched everything on Disney+, they make another new announcement! This time around they’re announcing the brand new original film which centers around animals. Move over Tarzan and his family of gorillas because there’s a new gorilla/elephant duo in town when The One And Only Ivan comes out!

Unlike some of the other Disney+ shows and movies that have been announced, this one is probably new to a lot of us. Luckily, we’ve got the inside scoop on everything to do with The One And Only Ivan.
Keep reading to find out more.
What’s ‘The One And Only Ivan’ About?
The film follows Ivan, a 400-pound silverback gorilla who lives in a cage in a suburban shopping mall. Ivan shares the shopping mall space with Stella, an elderly elephant and Bob, a dog. The three of them have lived in the shopping mall for several years, so long in fact that Ivan can hardly remember the jungle where he once lived before he was captured.
All of that is about to change though when Ruby, a baby elephant who has been separated from her family, arrives at the mall. Stella quickly takes Ruby under her wing but Ivan also helps. Together, Ruby helps Ivan remember his past and start planning for the future.
It’s Based On A Children’s Book
The story of The One And Only Ivan may not be familiar to us but it definitely is for some. The film is based on a children’s book of the same name which was written by Katherine Applegate and published in 2012.
In fact, the book was so amazing and popular it won several awards including the Newbery medal.

The Film Will Feature A Mix Of Live-Action And CGI Animation
Yep, you read that right. Just like Disney’s The Jungle Book, A Wrinkle in Time, and several other films, The One And Only Ivan will combine live-action actors with CGI animal counterparts.
We can’t wait to see how amazing everything will look!
The Cast Is Full Of Amazing Talent
Ivan the silverback gorilla will be voiced by Sam Rockwell with Angelina Jolie voicing Stella and Danny Devito lending his voice to Bob the dog. The newest resident of the shopping mall Ruby the elephant, will be voiced by Brooklyn Prince.
In addition, Helen Mirren will voice Snickers the poodle, Chaka Khan as Henrietta the chicken, Mike White as Frankie the seal, Ron Funches as Murphy the rabbit, and Phillipa Soo will voice Thelma the parrot.
As for the humans, well, Ramon Rodriquez, Ariana Greenblatt, and Bryan Cranston will all be on screen alongside their CGI animal counterparts.
When Will It Be Available?
The One and Only Ivan will be available to stream on Disney+ starting August 21st.
