Look up in the sky, it’s not a bird or a plane, Blackpink is in your area! After an incredibly long and frustrating year of impatiently waiting for a new comeback, YG finally gave us the news that we’ve all been waiting for.
Not only did the company announce the release of the quartet’s highly anticipated collab ‘Sour Candy’ with the Lady Gaga, but it was also revealed that the girls are finally getting the coveted full album they deserve in September 2020 and that Rosé, Lisa, and Jisoo’s solos will follow afterward.
On June 26th Blackpink released ‘How You Like That’, the pre-teaser track from their upcoming album and it completely blew us all away. The music video was nothing short of completely stunning and breathtaking, complete with vibrant visuals and stunning makeup and innovative outfits.
The members showed off their new hairstyles and colors and dazzled the mesmerized audiences with their catchy lyrics and choreography. If the girls asked us how we liked that, we’d say we love it.
Rosé, Lisa, Jennie, and Jisoo took it a step further and promoted their song with a special remote performance on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show and left us all shook with their incredible allure and the debut of Jennie’s blonde turned pink bangs.
The highlight of Blackpink’s comeback however was the music video for ‘How You Like That’ breaking the YouTube record for the most-viewed music video premiere of all time, with more than 82 million views within the first 24 hours. It’s clear to see that Blackpink have returned once again to take over the world with their latest song, and there’s no better time than now to stan one of the world’s biggest girl groups. So to help you get ready for their album release in September, here are 5 reasons to stan Blackpink!
1. Blackpink Have a Huge International Impact
Just a few years into their career, Blackpink had already become a household name. They became the first KPOP girl group to perform at Coachella, where they wowed crowds and showed the world the artistry that they had to offer.
In addition, they have also scored collaborations with Grammy award-winning artists such as Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga.
Furthermore, the group has charmed people with their humorous, sweet and down to earth personalities on late night T.V. shows such as The Late Late Show and The Tonight Show and revealed their true characters behind all of the glitz and the glam.
Some of the group’s additional achievements include the fact that they are the music group with the most subscribers on YouTube and have set a record for the highest-grossing tour by a female KPOP group. As if that weren’t enough, they are the first KPOP group to reach 1 billion views on YouTube with their hit song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’. They also have set a solid foot in the American music industry, which has manifested itself in the form of a signed contract with the U.S. Label Interscope Records. Moreover, the group’s EP Square Up debuted at #40 on the Billboard 200, with their single ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 at #55.
To add, Blackpink’s song ‘Kill This Love’ became the music video with the biggest debut on YouTube at the time of its release, gaining 56.7 million views within the first 24 hours. During that time, it also became the fastest music video to reach 100 million views in less than 3 days.
Blackpink now holds those records again, but this time for their new song ‘How You Like That’, which already has over 100 million views after less than 2 days of release.
Blackpink’s influence isn’t just restricted to the musical world; in fact, it’s extended across various industries. Lisa is one of the top dancers in the KPOP industry, and she is also the most followed KPOP idol on Instagram. Perhaps one of the greatest things she is known for is when she became the source of a meme when her long and unmistakable legs went viral on Twitter.
To continue, Jennie has significant brand influence and has been known to be a trendsetter, helping to popularize the trend of wearing hairpins, and is nicknamed by her fans as Korea’s It Girl for her status as a fashion icon and the ambassador of Chanel Korea.
Meanwhile, Jisoo is the beauty ambassador for Dior in South Korea and Rosé is a brand ambassador for Yves Saint Laurent.
The members’ power as a group and individuals is truly indisputable and honestly, we’re all lucky to be able to witness Blackpink world domination.
2. They Have Achieved So Much Despite Not Being Allowed To Reach Their Full Potential
Despite their worldwide acclaim, breaking countless records and captivating audiences all across the globe, Blackpink were (and still are) significantly held back from reaching their true potential.
After almost 4 years together as a group, Blackpink only have 14 original songs to their name (so far). Not to mention, even though they will be releasing a full album towards the end of this year, we can’t help but feel like it’s been long overdue. Blackpink are artists of such high caliber that their fans are always desiring more content (and we can’t blame them), however, YG Entertainment has been less than willing to provide.
Although their first world tour, Blackpink World Tour (In Your Area) demonstrated Blackpink’s immense talent and stage presence, fans weren’t able to get a truly complete and immersive Blackpink experience. The concert setlist included vocal and dance covers of songs including ‘Clarity’ by Zedd, ‘I Like It’ by Cardi B, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin, ‘Attention’ by Charlie Puth, ‘Let It Be’ by the Beatles, and ‘Swalla’ by Jason Derulo.
Even though Blackpink flawlessly executed all of these songs, it left us hungry for more songs that the girl group could truly call their own. The fact that Blackpink has managed to gain so many fans and achieve so much success in such a short time span and with a severely lacking catalog of songs is nothing short of inspiring. The girls have truly made the best of what little they were left to work with, and for that reason alone, we have no other choice but to stan.
3. Blackpink Have An Incredibly Diverse Background
Part of what makes Blackpink so unique is their global appeal, due to the fact that each and every one of the members comes from a diverse background. Jisoo was born in South Korea, as was Jennie; however, Jennie also lived and studied in New Zealand for a few years. Meanwhile, Rosé was born in New Zealand and grew up in Australia, and last but not least, Lisa is from Thailand. Due to some of the members living and studying abroad, most of them speak English fluently, which allows them to connect more easily with their international fanbase.
Together, all four members speak a variety of languages and their different upbringings have helped shape the group’s experiences and who they are as artists. They are able to overcome a lot of language barriers and as a result, reach a more widespread audience. Each individual member is truly special and distinct on their own, but when they work together as a team, they are unstoppable, and it is no surprise that people from all over the world are obsessed with them.
4. Blackpink Have An Extremely Dedicated Fanbase
Blackpink would not be where they are today if it wasn’t for the hard work of their extremely loyal and dedicated fans, the blinks. They’ve stood by the girls’ sides through the hiatuses and lack of music and they’re not afraid of fighting back to defend the group or to demand better treatment from YG.
In December 2019 blinks drove a truck around the area where YG Entertainment resides with a list of demands, including that the company give Blackpink 2 comebacks a year with promotion, allow the group to take part in end of year award shows and demanding that they release the other 3 members’ solo music (the company had stated they would release solo projects for the remaining members after Jennie released her song ‘Solo’ back in 2018).
Then, in May 2020, blinks sent an LED truck with a sign that demanded information on Blackpink’s comeback and called out YG for being vague in their details and promises regarding the comeback.
The most recent show of support from blinks came in June 2020, when some blinks sent another LED truck to park in front of YG Entertainment’s building to demand that the company allow Rosé to release solo music.
Being a blink is not easy and it’s most certainly not for the faint of heart. Blackpink stans have had to endure a lot of frustration and have become the masters of patience. They’ve dealt with a lot of radio silence on behalf of YG Entertainment, who have long made empty promises. However, blinks have the same tenacity as the people they stan and are some of the some of the strongest fans out there. They will fight for their idols to get the treatment that they deserve, and the result of that is all of the amazing songs, videos, and broken records that Blackpink have today.
5. They Possess Phenomenal Charisma and Stage Presence
There are so many different girl groups out there that are all insanely talented, but what makes Blackpink stand out is that their stage presence is on a completely different level. They have an undeniable aura of confidence and charisma that exudes from each member as soon as they step on the stage. You could say that they light up the sky and shine like the stars, because no one can cover a Blackpink song and pull it off as well as the original group.
Their every note, rap line, and dance move is perfectly executed in a way where they completely dominate the room. In every performance that they give, they make sure to provide an unforgettable show. It feels like each member was born to be an entertainer, and when you put all of these superstars together, you get the ultimate girl group.
Blackpink’s songs are mostly upbeat and filled with a lot of energy that makes you feel fearless and like tearing up the dance floor as soon as you hear it. Any time that you see and hear the girls perform, they instantly captivate you, as they command your attention, and always keep you intrigued and wanting more. Girl groups may come and go in the KPOP industry, but there will never be another group out there like Blackpink.
So for those of you out there that are already blinks, tell us some of the reasons why YOU stan Blackpink! Let us know in the comments down below or tweet us at @TheHoneyPop!
