Australian rock powerhouses Hands Like Houses have released new single ‘Space.’ The better news, they’re said to be releasing even more killer tunes throughout the year. If you’ve yet to experience all the loveliness that is Hands Like Houses, we’ll set you straight.
The group consists of Trenton Woodley (Lead Vocals, Keyboards, Programming), Matt Cooper (Lead Guitar), Alexander Pearson (Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals), Joel Tyrell (Bass, Backing Vocals), and Matt Parkitny (Drums). Forming in 2008 and signing to Hopeless Records and UNFD, their debut album Ground Dweller is an absolute SMASH. The second album Unimagine accompanied them on their 2013 Warped Tour. Putting out two more albums in 2016 (Dissonants) and 2018 (Anon), this band just doesn’t stop.
Hands Like Houses – ‘Space’
This single blends perfectly with the current world we are living in. Because, hey, everyone could use some space. While brilliant to look at, and listen to, this bands a catch. Woodley’s voice angelic as always, soothes the soul, over a Hands Like Houses original breakdown. Always technically proficient, this band shows it’s raw talent consistently. Lyrically, a perfect little belt your heart out sing-a-long.
For the band, though, this song hits a little deeper. Vocalist Trenton Woodley explains that ‘Space’ is meant to capture both a mentally and spatially suffocating period for the band during their recording experience. Finding himself pushing through motions of pure exhaustion, he felt he was still coming up short of others’ expectations. The track captures the cry for space that he desperately needed both lyrically and sonically.
The video dawns on the lyrical theme of isolation. Painting a cinematic portrait of a women’s twisting journey as she drives her life in a new direction.
Sometimes, a new direction is all you need.
