James Bay is back with a new song, and we’re already obsessed with it. We’ve been listening to his voice about twice a week for weeks during quarantine as he did guitar lessons on Instagram live-streams, but a new song? Even better. It’s called ‘Chew On My Heart,’ and along with it, he dropped a music video! He always seems to transmit some kind of calm energy about him, and it shows in the video as he dances on fields and plays guitar laying in bed.
When James talked about the track, he called it the opposite of being guarded, and we could see that in it. You can feel the vulnerability, that he loves and cares about someone so much he’d let them chew on his heart and hurt him.
‘Chew On My Heart’ is a great example of releasing something positive about myself publicly for the first time. It’s an outpouring of love, and that’s a huge theme across this new music. When I come home from tour, I burst through the door and throw my arms around my girl, and she’ll say, ‘Okay, relax, cool.’ It’s cheesy, but I wrote it from that perspective. It’s the opposite of being guarded.James Bay
Another thing that makes us so excited about this release is that it’s the first single from his forthcoming album! We can’t wait for more to be announced on the album, but if it’s anything like ‘Chew On My Heart,’ we know we’re going to love it.
Listen to ‘Chew On My Heart’ here, and watch the music video (that was shot last month in Paris while safely socially distancing) below!
And what’s even better? We don’t have to wait to see what the song will sound like live, as we’ve already gotten his performance of ‘Chew On My Heart’ from his set at #SaveOurVenues! He did a 45 minute set for the UK fundraiser to help venues that are at risk for permanent closing because of COVID-19. Check out his performance below, not only does it have some of his best songs, but it includes 3 new songs and a cover of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’!
