New York natives take the time to slow-it-down. Power-packed with all the feels, the band showcases a new side of their talents. Vocally, lyrically, and instrumentally you see the versatility and proficiency that this band has behind them.
While we’re used to the more angst-filled pop-punk sides of State Champs, we love what they’ve done for this Unplugged EP. Vocalist Derek DiScanio believes that ’10 AM’ might be the most experimental song they’ve ever written and recorded. Truthfully, we can’t disagree.
Stemming from a simple thought of a mellow, feel-good-acoustic vibe, mixing lyrical frustrations that leave you to question your worth. Using a few unique electro-elements, post-production made for a really superior sound and had the band excited for fans’ responses to the final product.
State Champs – ’10 AM’
Well, from the mouths of babes, we think it’s kick-ass. Likewise, so do many other fans, taking to socials to tell the band how painfully relatable, yet lovely the song is. Something is super calming about DiScanio’s voice, which helps fans accept the acoustic and see that the band is capable of both slowing us down and hyping us up. All at the right time.
’10 AM’ joins the stripped version of the hit ‘Criminal (Acoustic)‘ and single ‘Crying Out Loud’ all from forthcoming EP State Champs Unplugged. If you’re wondering why the band chose to release this EP, well, it’s because they wanted to go back to their roots. The group, together, and acoustic guitar, writing songs, bullshitting, and having fun. Finding their best material is created from a stress-free, organic, and raw environment.
DiScanio notes, “Our fans have been asking for new acoustic, stripped-down material for quite some time, we’re happy to say it’s here.” Well, almost. You can catch the EP on shelves and streaming services on August 14th, 2020, via Pure Noise Records.
