2020 may not be the year any of us wanted, but BTS have been working hard to make it as enjoyable as possible for their beloved ARMY. When their world tour was postponed and Map of the Soul: 7 promotions came to a halt, the Bangtan Boys knew that despite the struggle of not being together with their fans, they had to carry on to keep them smiling. From BangBangCon, to FESTA, to spontaneous livestreams full of little activities, and even Agust D‘s comeback, ARMY have for sure been entertained. But now, something big is coming and we’re all losing it.
Over the weekend, the boys got together for a spontaneous V-LIVE where they talked about what they were up to before announcing that they will be dropping a full English single next month.
Speaking about their announcement, the boys said: “We have prepared a new single for ARMY, set for August 21. We are preparing an album for the second half of this year, but decided to first release a single because we wanted to reach our fans as soon as possible. Due to COVID-19, people around the world have been going through tough times and we wanted to share some positive energy with our fans.”
And you know, with an announcement of new music signifying a new era is on the way, we were all vibing. That was some great news, right? But that’s not all, friends. Oh no. Of course it’s not, it’s BTS – just telling us there’s a new single on the way simply wouldn’t be enough for them.
Taking to Twitter, Columbia Records has just posted a mysterious countdown tagging the boys. The link takes you to a website where seven colorful countdowns are ticking away, each number drop our nerves heightening. Just what is going on?!
ARMY being ARMY have already gone into super sleuth mode trying to work out what’s going on, and let’s face it, how are we meant to wait this long in the dark?
bruh the fact that bts got sony music and columbia records posting about the countdown… this is gonna be huge HUGE pic.twitter.com/X0XIpdtS7m— long legs yuto⁷ (@ughptg) July 27, 2020
It was quickly calculated that these are the dates and times in Korean Standard Time, which we need to mark down in our diaries. So if you threw out your 2020 planner thinking it was a waste, it may be worth trying to fish it back out!

Some fans were also quick to work out that the colors of the countdown actually seem to match up to each member’s microphone color…
And some even think that j-hope‘s innocent little V-LIVE series making bracelets for the boys may not be so innocent after all, possibly linking into what’s to come…

Armys : “okay let’s revise BTS’ microphone colors again and what was the color of the bracelets hobi made for the members? this was ALL A PLAN” @BTS_twt 😂
BTS have been very vocal about their hard work in terms of their upcoming comeback. In an attempt to stay connected to ARMY during difficult times, they’ve been sharing updates and insight to the work they’ve been putting in on an album that is completely being made by themselves. Each member has a role that takes charge of a section of creating the album and in various livestreams, they’ve shared thoughts, ideas and updates with fans as they went to work. With record labels tweeting about this countdown, it’s almost certain in the eyes of fans that this is what we’re getting a build up for (though it’s always wise to stay on your toes with Bangtan because something completely different could happen that nobody was expecting.)
Fans have been sharing their thoughts and theories surrounding what to expect from this new era and what they think we can expect.
i truly believe this comeback will be big and different. all these countdowns, bts saying the song will be ‘something they havent done before’, gp starting to get interested in this upcoming release and most importantly this will be a self produced album. we are not ready— mina⁷ ༄ (@vantefIwr) July 27, 2020
