Can you believe it’s that time of year again? Arguably one of the biggest music awards of the year is back once again and this time with some new categories! With everything going on in 2020, it was unsure which star studded events would still take place this year, but the MTV VMAs were given the greenlight and the nominees have just been announced.
Taking place in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, New York on August 30th, artists will be celebrated in 21 categories including the big categories such as Artist of the Year and Video of the Year. This year, we have newly themed VMAs categories bringing positivity during darker times. Best Music Video From Home and Best Quarantine Performance are here to celebrate the incredible work and creativity that artists used to continue creating music and visuals while encouraging their fans to stick to the guidelines of staying at home surrounding the pandemic. Artists such as 5SOS, John Legend, and Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber are just some of those nominated in these new categories.

This year, KPOP will also be celebrated at the VMAs and it’s about time! Monsta X, EXO and Red Velvet are amongst those nominated alongside BTS who are also in the running for Best Pop and Best Choreography.

Ariana and Lady Gaga take take the lead at this year’s VMAs with nine nominations each, including a co-nomination for Video of the Year for ‘Rain on Me’. Billie Eilish and The Weeknd follow second with six nominations each.

Lewis Capaldi, Yungblud and Doja Cat are amongst the nominees for Push Best New Artist which will remain open until during the ceremony.
Fans can vote for fifteen of the categories on the MTV VMAs website until August 23rd with 20 votes per category per day meaning we multistans are saved! Meanwhile, you can also vote for the new category ‘Best Group’ over on Instagram during the lead up to the ceremony. Nominees include Little Mix, BTS, BLACKPINK, 5SOS, Monsta X plus many more!
In addition to this, starting August 26th, you can vote for Song of the Summer! Big bangers up for an award include Harry Styles’s ‘Watermelon Sugar,’ BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That,’ Miley Cyrus’s ‘Midnight Sky,’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Cardigan.’
Performing at the VMAs this year is none other than BTS, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, J Balvin, CNCO, The Weeknd, Maluma, DaBaby, Black Eyed Peas, and Roddy Rich, with Lewis Capaldi, Chloe X Halle, Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Barker, blackbear, Tate McRae, and Jack Harlow performing for the pre-show!
