On July 29th, Disney+ announced that they will produce a contemporary adaptation of Anna Sewell’s classic 19th-century novel, Black Beauty which will premiere on the streaming service later this year. Black Beauty is about a wild mustang that is born free in the American West. Her story intertwines with 17-year old Jo Green who is grieving over the loss of her parents, after being captured and taken away from her family. Throughout the story, we see the development of an unbreakable bond between the two.
The contemporary adaption of Black Beauty features OscarⓇ winner Kate Winslet as the force of “Black Beauty”. It also stars Mackenzie Foy (Interstellar) AS Jo Green; Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) as John Manly; and Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black) as Mrs. Winthrop.
Black Beauty is directed by Ashley Avis, previously worked on Adolescence, who also wrote the screenplay. It is produced by Constantin Film and JB Pictures. The producers working on the film are Jeremy Bolt (Polar, Monster Hunter) and Robert Kulzer (Polar) with the executive producers being Martin Moszkowicz, Edward Winters, and Jon Brown. The other producers working on it are Dylan Tarason as a co-producer, and Moonlighting Films president Genevieve Hofmeyr (Mad Max: Fury Road) is the South African producer.
