There is something beautiful about holding a new book in your hand. The crisp smell of papered pages and the way a bind creeks when you open it, it’s incredibly satisfying. We aren’t the only ones who enjoy the fresh print on the creamed colored pages, our favorite K-POP artists do as well. So in honor of Book Lovers Day, The Honey Pop wants to share with you the bookworms of K-pop and the books they love!
GOT7’s Jinyoung: Norweigan Wood by Haruki Murakami
Jinyoung is an avid fan of reading books, he is the definition of a bookworm. At a fan sign in 2016, Jinyoung revealed that his favorite novel was Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. Norwegian Wood is a bittersweet coming of age novel that follows Toru, a college student who falls in love with Naoko, a free-spirited woman. Jinyoung’s love of books is reflected in the other members of GOT7 as well. Jaebeom, another bookworm, has also read the novel after Jinyoung recommended it to him. BTS’ RM: 1984 by George Orwell
We always love a good classic and RM loving the most infamous one brings joy to our hearts. Fans of BTS have known RM has had a love for literature that traces back to pre-debut and it has greatly influenced his artistry as a musician. RM said in 2018 on a live video chat with fans that he read 1984 by George Orwell. When Love Yourself: Answer promotions came out, fans connected the novel’s influence on the album. 1984 is a dystopian novel about how a government desires to have absolute control over its people. IU: No Longer Human by Dazai Osamu
IU is another artist who’s used her love for literature to influence her artistry. IU spends her time sharing her favorite stories on live chat with fans, earning her the title of being a bookworm. IU read Osamu’s novel while she was appearing on JBTC’s “Hyori Homestay”. No Longer Human is a novel about a young man who is torn between the traditional values of northern Japan and western values. NCT’s Jaehyun: The Courage To Be Disliked by Kishimi Ichiro
Jaehyun has talked about his favorite novels at multiple fan signs and live video chats. The one he commonly talks about is The Courage To Be Disliked by Kishimi Ichiro. The Courage To Be Disliked follows the conversations between a philosopher and a young man while using the theories of Alfred Adler to drive the narrative. The novel’s purpose is to help you unlock the better you and the person you strive to be. It’s an inspirational novel that fits the bright energy that Jaehyun gives off. BLACKPINK’s Jisoo: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Jisoo is known to show fans her bookcase that features all kinds of titles. In 2018, Jisoo showed off a collection of books that included the classic, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. EXO’s Kai: The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino
Kai has expressed in multiple interviews on how reading is a favorite pastime of his since he was a child. He has talked about books throughout his career at fan signs, on live chats, and during interviews. While doing a live video chat on his birthday in 2019, Kai expressed that his favorite book was The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino. Red Velvet’s Yeri: Confessions by Kanae Minato
Spotted most of the time with a book in her hand, Yeri is a lover of all books. Yeri was spotted with Confessions in her hand at an airport. Confessions is about a woman who sets out on a journey for revenge after an incident kills her young daughter. You can check the book here.
SHINee’s Jonghyun: The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
Jonghyun loved to read and read books of all kinds: short stories, poems, and more. He had loved books so much that he wrote one called Skeleton Flower but sadly, it’s out of print. In 2016, Jonghyun picked The Metamorphosis as the book he read the most. The Metamorphosis is about a man who lived an uneventful life that wakes up one day as a vermin.
