For as long as we can remember, Beyoncé has always managed to stun her fans on how well she can tell a story with her cinematic music videos. On August 10th, Beyoncé dazzled fans with the release of Black Is King, available exclusively on Disney+. The album is based on the music featured in The Lion King: The Gift and is a retelling of the lessons from the movie to uplift those who are in search of their crowns.
A celebratory memoir on the Black experience, Black Is King filmed in various locations that capture the worldwide beauty of Black culture. Some locations featured are New York, Los Angeles, South Africa, West Africa, London, and Belgium. From all of these locations, actors and dancers were picked to add dimension to the beauty that we see in the outstanding cinematography. In production for one year, the visual album holds a star-studded guest list with names such as Academy Award-winning actor Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, Tina Knowles-Lawson and more. Other artists featured on The Lion King: The Gift album also make appearances within the visual album.
Beyoncé never fails to stun the world with her creative ways to tell a story and tell it so beautifully. With #BLACKISKING, we are reminded of how beautifully rich and warm Black culture is as well as the impact it has on everyday life.
