Kenshi Yonezu Already Sold Out His Uniqlo Collaboration, But Don’t Fret!

If you haven’t by now, you should check Kenshi Yonezu out. An established singer-songwriter and producer in Japan, Kenshi is coming to take over the US market. After becoming the first Asian artist to perform on Fortnite’s server, he has increasingly been on a global rise. Shortly after, the 29-year old musician dropped a clothing collaboration with Japanese brand Uniqlo. Immediately after the drop, Kenshi’s Uniqlo collaboration sold out, but new stock was recently released for purchasing!

Uniqlo has always been around as a part of daily Japanese life since I was a kid. It’s only now that I’ve finally come to somewhat understand how difficult that must be to uphold. I salute Uniqlo for taking the responsibility of always being around as a part of our daily lives.

Kenshi’s collaboration with both Uniqlo and Fortnite had both been arranged to celebrate the release of his long-awaited fifth studio album, STRAY SHEEP. When visiting the flagship Uniqlo store in New York City (located at the corner of 53rd and 5th Avenue), Kenshi’s artwork for the album cover is displayed on the glass windows. In addition to this, his campaign is displayed on the large digital billboards at both opposite ends of the Time Square bowties.

STRAY SHEEP physical sales had surpassed one million copies in less than two weeks and the album charted #1 in 59 countries upon its release. Since it’s release, STRAY SHEEP has been breaking records in Japan. With this album, Yonezu became the highest selling male solo artist for his CD album sales since 2008 when Billboard Japan started counting CD album sales for male solo artists. After that, on August 5th, six songs from the album charted on the Oricon Weekly Streaming Ranking. Oricon’s charts are the Japanese music industry-standard single popularity chart that is issued daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. This makes him the first male solo artist to have six titles simultaneously enter the top ten as well as the first-ever appearance to happen.

With all this, don’t you think you ought to check him out?

There’s no doubt in our souls that Kenshi Yonezu is the next big artist to come from Japan and smash the charts. It’s only a matter of when and where we can see the superstar next. We’re looking forward to his arrival!
