BTS are continuing their 2020 streak of success, and honestly are we really surprised? Following the release of their first all-English single ‘Dynamite,’ ARMY went all out with a big set of goals for this comeback, allowing nothing to stand in their way.
The single’s groovy music video earned a whopping 10 million views within just an hour of dropping on YouTube but the success didn’t stop there. While the view count seemed to stop just short of 100 million views 24 hours later, the streaming platform has since counted up the amount of views and has confirmed that ‘Dynamite’ in fact reached 101.1 million within the first 24 hours of the upload. This broke the previous record of 86.3 million, which was held by BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That,‘ which dropped back in June. KPOP is truly ruling the roost in terms of streaming right now!
In addition to this, the video also broke the record for the most-viewed premiere video, reporting approximately 4 million viewers when the video first live-premiered on Friday. Not to mention that this is the third time this year that BTS had a Top 10 in first-day music video views, as well as becoming the most liked music video in 2020, so far accumulating over 14 million likes in two days. ARMY & BTS did: that.
The song itself is doing pretty damn good, too, having topped the iTune charts in 104 regions. They also topped Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart, which makes them the first ever Korean act to achieve this. Are we even surprised?
‘Dynamite’ was a pretty spontaneous detour while working on BTS’s upcoming album that’s planned to drop towards the end of this year, with hopes that this summer single would lift the spirits of ARMY following the difficult year that 2020 has become in which the Map of the Soul Tour has been postponed until further notice.
Speaking at the online press conference on Friday ahead of the single drop, SUGA said: “Dynamite sends a message of happiness and confidence. I’d say it’s a song to all the people who felt like they had fallen down while running a marathon,” with RM adding: “We think of this as our recharge project, and we hope you can use it to recharge your own batteries.”
The next big event for the Bangtan Boys is their first performance of the single at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards taking place on Sunday, August 30th where the septet are nominated for three awards: ‘Best Pop’, ‘Best KPOP’ and ‘Best Choreography’ for their single ‘ON.’
