Fans of the Japanese rock musician Yoshiki and the anime Attack on Titan: get hyped! This is one for the books. Staring in a new commercial for Wonda Coffee, Yoshiki transforms into a Titan! Confused? No worries. That’s what we’re here for, so let’s break it down into parts:
Attack On Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)
Attack on Titan, or in Japanese Shingeki no Kyojin, is a hugely popular anime set in a world ruled by fear– fear of getting eaten alive. Our main character, Eren Yeager, makes it his mission to kill Titans and further humanity’s efforts to survive. One small thing though: he can turn into the very thing he wants to kill. As we follow the story, we find others with the same ability (Well… sort of). Each Titan has its abilities that make them unique. Even the “grunt” Titans are classed by their sizes. This is all you need to know for this article, but if you wanna know more, check it out or let us know. We can whip up a little something.
If you didn’t know before, let us be the one to break the news. That opening you just heard? Yeah, that’s Yoshiki. This man is a musician, composer, songwriter, and a record producer. He kinda, sorta, definitely founded the visual kei rock band X Japan.
Attack on Titan isn’t the only anime he has worked with either. X, X2 Double X, Buddha: The Great Departure, and Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary are some he’s made themes for. He also served as inspiration for the Blood Red Dragon comic series by Stan Lee. If you didn’t understand before, we hope you do now; Yoshiki is a legend.
From there, he has also worked with big names such as Bono, will.i.am, and Jennifer Hudson on the song ‘SING4LIFE,’ while also composing music for Vin Diesel’s next film xXx 4.
Here’s the Attack on Titan opening one more time with lyrics to get us back on track.
Now let’s get to the real reason we’re here. The company Asahi made a commercial for its product Wonda Coffee.
Coffee is pretty epic, isn’t it? What better way to advertise then to get a legendary rock composer and drummer to star in and shred the scene? This is for an ongoing promotion for Asahi‘s Wonda Coffee starting September 3rd. If you haven’t heard of Asahi before, you’re missing out; they are the drink company of Japan. Japanese global beer, spirits, soft drinks, and food business group are headquartered in Sumida, Tokyo. They are a pretty big deal. You’ve never had a drink until you’ve had an Asahi drink.
We, at The Honey POP, love anime and Japanese musicians. We’ve interviewed SCANDAL and covered the anime queen herself! We want to know your thoughts! Were you blown away by that commercial? What was your favorite part? Are you going to get your hands on some Wonda Coffee? We’re pretty tempted, so let us know in the comments down below, on Twitter @thehoneypop, on Facebook, or our Instagram!
