BTS was hyped about having one of their singles reach the top spot in the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time ever. We definitely hadn’t imagined their reaction after finding out that ‘Dynamite’ is occupying the #1 place for a second week in a row. Actually, nevermind! They shared their excitement via Twitter as soon as they found out the news!
The band has become the first Korean pop act to have topped, and maintained, the #1 spot on the Hot 100 for two weeks. It is no secret that this has been one of their goals, having expressed it on several occasions. We are more than excited to see them “set the night alight, shining through the city with a little funk and soul,” while they light the charts up like Dynamite (see what we did there?).
These accomplishments are even more meaningful because they each fell on the birthday week of two of the members. The news of ‘Dynamite’ having topped the HOT 100 charts for the first time was released on September 1st, which is the day of Jungkook’s 24th birthday. Billboard made the second announcement on September 8th, but they stated that the chart was dated September 12th, therefore falling on RM’s birthday. This means that the ‘September miracles,’ as dubbed by ARMY, have received some of the best gifts they could’ve ever asked for.
The musical impact ‘Dynamite’ has had is astounding. For starters, the music video amassed 101.1 million views in 24 hours. In addition, the song reached the first spot on the iTunes charts in 104 regions. The track has also been occupying one of the top 5 spots in Spotify’s “Global Top 50” charts since its release, subsequently being a first for a Korean act. It has been receiving more radio play in different countries and has caught the attention of different artists who have been giving the bop the recognition it deserves.
