Kim Namjoon. What a guy. The artist – known by his stage name RM – is the leader of the powerhouse takeover group that is BTS. He has done such an incredible job acting as their spokesperson and taking on such massive responsibilities within the role he has in the group. Not only this, but he has also shared his wisdom with his beloved ARMY on his way. We’re sharing with you 7 of the most insightful lessons that Namjoon has taught us.
1. That happiness is something you don’t achieve
Namjoon often spiels some of the most philosophical insights, especially during the ending ments of BTS concerts. When it comes to happiness, Namjoon reminded ARMY that it isn’t something that should be your end goal.
“Happiness is not something that you have to achieve. You can still feel happy during the process of achieving something. Something can be beautiful even thought there’s something terrible.“
2. To always be totally and completely yourself, no matter who you are
One of the most famous and recognized speeches from Namjoon is when he addressed the United Nations. Back in 2018, while launching their Speak Yourself campaign, BTS took to the United Nations, where Namjoon gave a speech in support of Generation Unlimited, a global parnership to help every young person into quality education, training, or employment by 2030. The speech went viral and resonated with many ARMY, as it was full of insightful and empowering quotes.
“Tell me your story. I want to hear your voice, and I want to hear your conviction. No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin colour, gender identity: speak yourself. Find your name, find your voice by speaking yourself.”
3. To recognize your limits, but work towards being able to extend them
It’s important to know your limitations in life to make sure you don’t overwork yourself, and Namjoon reminds us of this in Burn The Stage— all while encouraging us to work on extending those limits in order to grow.
4. That it’s okay to lean on who and what you love during the difficult times
Namjoon’s ending ment from the Wings Tour:
“If we could reduce your pain from 100 to 99, 98, or just 97, then our existence is worth it. I love you.”
Always one of the most beautiful ones 💜

There are times in life where we may encounter hardships and struggles. Namjoon took to the ending ment of the Wings Tour to let people know it’s okay to lean on things and people you love during those difficult times, reminding them that BTS are there for them to find support and happiness when it feels like there is none. We’re not crying, you are!
5. That everything goes
Namjoon is quite the songwriter. We have a list as long as our arm and then some of his many inspirational songs, but one that really taught us something is ‘everythingoes’ from his second mixtape Mono (Nothing on earth lasts forever, including the hardships in life. The chanted lines throughout the song emphasize this message). The song, featuring Nell, sings about how everything in life, even pain, has to pass– that nothing on this earth, including life’s hardships, lasts forever.
6. That there is no one way to love yourself
Life these days is often filled with the media, influencers, and others trying to teach us how to love ourselves, but Namjoon has a more realistic outlook on this. At the ending ment of the Love Yourself Tour at Citi Field Stadium, New York, Namjoon shared his observation and what he has learnt in terms of learning how to love yourself.
“What is loving myself? What is loving yourself? I don’t know. Who can define your method and way of loving yourself? It’s our mission to define our way to love ourselves.”
7. To appreciate the smaller things in life
Life is often full of big dreams and ambitions, which we spend so much time working towards. From a young age, we are encouraged to think about the future and our big goals in life, and sometimes it can be either overwhelming or unsatisfying. Namjoon reminds us to not forget about the little things in life. He often shares with fans photos and clips from when he’s out and about, such as a photo of the sky, some plants, or any animal friends he’s come across; ARMY usually dubbing his ventures as “Namjooning.” It’s by taking time to stop and be one with the smaller details in life that you can appreciate life and often find more happiness and admiration for the time we are on this planet.
