Fresh Music Friday: SEVENTEEN, Fletcher, The Vamps… and MORE!

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

This Japanese comeback of SEVENTEEN’s, we will be cherishing for a long time. Our first view at the comeback we got new song and mv ‘24H,’ which was just so good!. Their Japanese mv’s never disappoint. We also got a lot of rereleases of fan favorites, ‘Pinwheel,’ ‘247,’ ‘Chilli’ and ‘Together,’ which was off of their new album, Heng: garæ. There was so much to love about this album, even though it does only contain 5 tracks. Like come on, we can’t be the only ones who think ‘Together,’ should be picked up by an anime, right?. We at Fresh Music Friday can’t wait for what’s in store for their next Japanese comeback!

The S(Ex) Tapes – Fletcher

FLETCHER DROPPED THE S(EX) TAPES OVER A WEEK EARLY! We don’t know how her mind works, but we love it. We heard 4 of the 7 songs already, and now we finally get to hear ‘Silence,’ ‘Shh… Don’t Say It,’ and ‘Sex (With My Ex.)’ The whole EP is a compilation of her healing process and all her emotions going through a heartbreak, before she could even process it herself. It’s something that can make us cry to literally any song on it, but we can also dance and bop.

However you listen and however you process the emotions of it, there’s no doubt this is the best work we’ve gotten from Fletcher. It’s honest and more vulnerable than anything she’s put out. The S(ex) Tapes is a work of music we’re already in love with, and we won’t ever get over it. Alright, time to grab some tissues for these tears that seem to be on our faces after listening.

‘Chemicals’ – The Vamps

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of a number one hit! When we were told we were getting a new era of The Vamps we were stoked, but so far they have far exceeded what we even imagined it to be like! ‘Chemicals’ is just the second track from the Cherry Blossom era, and with its hypnotic beats and ear-worm lyrics we already can’t get enough of it. It’s the perfect addition to those end of summer playlists and it’s the perfect tune to kick off your weekend with a bang!

‘It’s Ok To Not Be Ok’ – Marshmello X Demi Lovato

We are loving the song and music video for Marshmello and Demi Lovato’s latest song ‘It’s Okay Not To Be Okay’. The detail in the bedrooms Marshmello and Demi wake up in is stellar and wonderfully color coordinated. Plus, Demi’s outfit? We gotta have it! This is a special song and message. Released on National Suicide Awareness day we’re feeling comforted knowing ‘It’s Okay Not To Be Okay;’ that goes for all ages.

We get to see what appears to be a younger version of Demi as she struggles with her appearance, make up, as well as others things we may not be able to see. We also get a younger version of Marshmello as they explore their creativity. We at Fresh Music Friday are loving the care and detail in this one. At the end of the day, take care of yourself and be there for yourself like you wished someone else was. At the end we get a card of hotlines and resources if you’re struggling and hey, ‘It’s Okay Not To Be Okay.’

Never Gonna Dance Again: Act 1 – Taemin

It may have been a long time coming but Taemin‘s 3rd full-length Korean album Never Gonna Dance Again: Act 1 was worth the wait. Each of the 9 tracks shows off a different shade of his unique colour. While pre-release ‘2 KIDS’ and the Korean version of his Japanese single ‘Famous’ add a dreamlike nostalgia, every song brings something special to the album. Title track ‘Criminal’ highlights Taemin’s ethereal vocals with a deep, rhythmic baseline that we can’t get out of our heads. The music video is just as stunning and a fitting showcase for his incomparable dance moves. Honestly, every move he makes is so sharp and fluid he makes walking look expensive. Taemin proves once again why he is that K-pop guy.

TikTok Queen Dixie D’Amelio has collabed with blackbear and Lil Mosey this week! The result? A completely re-imagined version of her hit track ‘Be Happy’ that we’re head over heels in love with. Alongside her stunning vocals, we now have verses from both blackbear and Lil Mosey while the instrumental has some re-worked rap beats too! We love it and think you will too.

Mamamoo are once again showing us why they’re the queens of self-love with their new single ‘Wanna Be Myself’. With the group’s always stellar vocals and a groovy vibe, this is a perfect summer bop. The video is chic and fun with the girls celebrating what makes them unique. Whether they’re rocking sportswear, street fashion, glamorous heels or tomboy attire, they’re doing it with 100% confidence. The sassy lyrics tell us “like this or like that, don’t compare” and we totally agree! Embrace your differences while you groove along to this girl-power anthem. Fresh Music Friday approved!

‘Your Moonlight’ – Chen

Chen of EXO sings the OST of the Korean Drama, Do You Like Brahms? In the melodic tune, Chen is able to convey the emotional drama with the assistance of a piano and an orchestra. ‘Your Moonlight’ is a beautiful song that describes the journey of a young love which is reflected in the drama itself. It’s so nice to hear the voice of Chen which his fans love year-round as there’s a soothing yet loving aspect to.

We’re throwing back this week because Usher has a smooth new single out this week! ‘Bad Habits’ is a slick soulful track full of self reflection and it shows just how much Usher has grown as an artist since the 90’s. If you’re looking for a tune to groove to this weekend then this is IT!

‘Go’ – SeungKwan

This isn’t Seungkwan of SEVENTEEN’s first OST and we are sure it won’t be his last. ‘Go’ is one of many amazing songs, part of the Korean Drama Record Of Truth’s soundtrack. It has really sweet, deep lyrics and his lovely voice tops it off for a very nice track. The mv for the track is also out, in it you can view some clips from the show. Though the K-Drama has just started, it seems like it is going to be a very entertaining watch.

If you’re not already on the Major Lazer hype then ‘Oh My Gawd’ might just convert you! This is a track that has not come to mess around this Fresh Music Friday and has one of the funkiest choruses we’ve heard all year. Nicki Minaj and K4MO both feature exquisitely too. The one thing we wish this track was? Longer.

S1mba and KSI have joined forces to give us a track this week that is full of vibes. ‘Loose’ will have you swaying your hips and dancing round your house like no one’s business. Ballerini – Kelsea Ballerini

Accurately named, Ballerini is an album full of raw emotion which Kelsea showcases effortlessly. We’ve never doubted the talent that runs though Kelsea’s veins from her vocals to songwriting, but we love the fact that this album allows for a more raw and real sound. A look deep inside her brain, and at all the ups and downs that can be faced within a relationship and in life; all the soul-shattering moments and the most memorable ones. It’s some of her newest releases like you’ve never heard them before! Overall, it gets an 11/10 from us and now if you’ll excuse us, we need to go be in our feels alone.
