The sweet, dreamy track is an upbeat ode to his wife Emily, who also co-stars with him in his music video, which shares an abridged version of their love story to date. SUGA’s own-written rap in Korean adds energy and even hints at his own love, ARMY (“you ARe MY light”) while the couple lip-sync his verse to perfection as their vows in the video. Because who needs personally written vows when you have Min Yoongi’s flawless way with words?
Speaking of the track, MAX says: “Bringing this music video to life has been such a special experience. I wanted it to feel as if Disney magically made a baby with Wes Anderson in the world of Colour Vision with every bit of our souls intertwined. Emily is my actual wife and she is really pregnant right now with our first child, so art imitates life in a fun way with this video.”
“We studied and memorized all of the Korean lyrics to SUGA’s incredible and romantic verse and all of the blueberries in the bathtub ended up being reused to create limited edition blueberry dyed blueberry eyes shirts. This video is a piece of our hearts and I hope it sparks the same magic in you viewing it as it did for us creating it. Thank you to SUGA for being so brilliant on this song and more importantly for being a wonderful friend.”
MAX and SUGA are possibly our friendship goals of 2020 as the pair have already worked together on ‘Burn It,’ a track from SUGA’s alias Agust D‘s latest mixtape D2. The pair have also been known to praise one another on social media and had a great time hanging out when MAX was in Korea pre-pandemic.
Speaking to Forbes about the first time they met, Max said: ” I got to hang with SUGA at BigHit. And I thought that maybe it would just be a picture, maybe a thank you for giving all the love for my music. But we ended up bonding really deeply over our mutual love for basketball, and food, and music. And the first thing he asks, and I was so surprised, was “I have this song, and I’d love you to be a part of it.””
“I was completely shocked. I definitely didn’t expect that from just our first hang. And about a month later he sent me the song. It was really cool to build such a friendship, all the while creating ‘Burn It’ and working on music together.”
MAX’s new album offers other exciting collabs with the likes of Hayley Kiyoko, Chromeo and Quinn XCII, which releases this Friday September 18th.
