For anyone who tried to make out that our boy Lewis Capaldi was a mere one-hit-wonder, get ready to eat your words (er, that also includes Lewis himself who made the joke) as he’s just smashed it once again with another single!
His latest single ‘Before You Go,’ has just hit the top spot on Mediabase Top 40 and Billboard‘s Pop Songs and All Format Radio Songs chart. The single – which dropped on November 19th last year from the extended version of his debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent – has shattered the record for the longest journey to number 1 in the history of both charts, completing a record-breaking 36 weeks to No. 1 on Mediabase and a 37-week climb to No. 1 on the Pop Songs chart, which sees him surpass the 31-week climb of Benny Blanco, Halsey and Khalid’s ‘Eastside’ in 2018-19. YES, KING!
The multi-platinum-selling Scottish artist has also taken over The Weeknd‘s ‘Blinding Lights’ as the longest-reigning No. 1 in chart history. In addition to this, he also joins an elite club consisting of Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars as the only solo artists to rule both the Pop Songs and Radio Songs charts with their first two entries as ‘Before You Go’ follows his GRAMMY-nominated No 1. breakthrough hit ‘Someone You Loved.’ We bet Lewis is thriving right now!
‘Before You Go’ is now certified platinum and reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit #5 at Pop radio and #1 at Adult Pop radio, in addition to topping the UK Singles and Irish Singles charts, which makes it Capaldi’s second No. 1 in the UK and third No. 1 in Ireland. Overall, the track has amassed over one billion streams worldwide. Not too shabby, right?
2020 has been quite quiet on the music front for the self-proclaimed Scottish Beyoncé, who would have been joining his pal Niall Horan on the North American leg of the Nice To Meet Ya Tour, but we’re hoping that it means he’s been working hard to bless us with new music in the new year!
