If there is an artist we would predict would become a household name, it’s this king. On September 25th, JOJI released his new album Nectar with a music video for ‘Your Man.’ The highly-anticipated sophomore album is a follow-up to her debut album LP BALLADS 1, the first album to debut at #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart by an Asian-born artist. Executively produced and arranged by the king himself, Nectar contains 18-tracks and was released through 88rising and 12Tone Music.
JOJI describes his newest album as having a sense of urgency but a calm feel to it. Nectar isn’t just your typical R&B album, JOJI mixes different genres of music to help develop the creative and cinematic sounds. As you listen to the album, you can see the way the multiple music styles blend into one another. You can hear the way the R&B floats around the alternative that also two steps its way into electronic.
Before its release, JOJI dropped four tracks that have gained over 850 million streams. With ‘Run,’ JOJI earned his highest-ever debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and led to his television debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
‘Your Man,’ JOJI’s newest music video, was directed by Jared Hogan. Hogan has worked with JOJI on multiple art projects including the music video for ‘Slow Dancing In The Dark.’ The music video features an expressive dance to coincide with the slow burner song that corresponds with the steady synths. It’s breathtaking to see how well Hogan can bring JOJI’s creativity and uniqueness to life.
To celebrate the release, JOJI debuted a new line of merchandise. Honestly, it made us giggle on how JOJI-like the merchandise is. In addition to your typical t-shirts and hoodies, JOJI also released a limited edition pot of honey that was a collaboration with Eli’s Bee Company. All official merchandise and honey can only be purchased on jojimusic.
If you aren’t familiar with JOJI, JOJI is a Japan-born singer, producer, and auteur whose creativity is displayed throughout all mediums of his art. He has amassed over 5 billion streams to date despite being an independent artist. In 2019, JOJI sold-out his North America tour within minutes and performed at some of the most coveted festivals across the world, including Reading & Leeds in the UK and Lollapalooza.
To us, there’s not one skipper on the album. JOJI never fails to amaze us with his unique ability to touch hearts through his music. We’re thrilled that JOJI finally got to release his sophomore album. Now, we’re looking forward to more music from the R&B artist and also cheering for his everlasting success. Thank you JOJI for this masterpiece! Now, time to go back and put the album on repeat.
You can listen to Nectar on all streaming platforms now.
