Fresh Music Friday

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

BLACKPINK are back in our area and they’ve dropped their debut full-length album! The Album is perhaps BLACKPINK at their best (which, let’s be honest, previous releases have already been absolute smashes) with the title track ‘Lovesick Girls’ – co-written by Jennie and Jisoo – being a massive anthem that we can see really going off at a party. There’s a lot of trap beats featuring on this album like in the badass ‘Pretty Savage’ and ‘Crazy Over You,’ with a mix of hip hop and EDM creating the perfect blend that can proudly identify as BLACKPINK’s sound. We are living for the feminist vibes from this album. It’s confident, bold, and sassy and makes us feel like total boss bitches when we listen to it. The only downside is the fact it’s such a short album. We just need more of these girls in our lives and our playlists! Fresh Music Friday approved.

‘Savage Love (Remix)’ – Jason Derulo, Jawsh 865, BTS

BTS are back and have taken one of the hottest songs of 2020 and escalated it to the next level. Joining Jawsh 865 and Jason Derulo on the ‘Savage Love’ remix with Jungkook taking the lead, and SUGA and j-hope hopping on to add two rap verses. The Bangtan Boys’ addition to the song gives the song a new lease of life and a fighting chance of continuing to reign the charts for the remainder of 2020. Fans also were quick to notice the simple change of wording to make this a gender-neutral song, making it even more enjoyable for a wider audience. We at Fresh Music Friday can’t get enough!

‘Still Have Me’ – Demi Lovato

Demi sure knows how to tug on the heartstrings because we haven’t stopped crying since the first time we listened to this. ‘Still Have Me’ is emotional and raw, and Demi’s powerhouse vocals only further showcase the most vulnerable side of her. Tender, poetic lyrics feel up our every sense and our feels are in overdrive as our hearts break listening to this song. She is one of the strongest people we’ve ever met, she’s been through so much and still is proving just how strong and fierce she truly is. You still have us, Demi, always, and forever.

‘Have U Found What Ur Looking For?’ – Ashton Irwin

Ashton Irwin is back in Fresh Music Friday for the second week in a row with another insanely awesome song! ‘Have U Found What Ur Looking For’ brings back those drums that we all know and love! This upbeat song has us jamming out! This song that was created with Matthew Paulling is a must-have on your playlist! This song makes us all super excited to see what the rest of Ashton’s solo album is going to be sounding like.

‘Wonder’ – Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes did THAT! ‘Wonder’ is undeniably beautiful and passionate in every way. His vocals are a heavenly mix of smooth and sultry creating a mesmerizing track. We are hypnotized by the breathtaking and emotionally-rich lyrics that leave us practically begging for me. We know this is going to be another top hit for Shawn and we at Fresh Music Friday are so here for it!

‘Heart of Glass’ – Miley Cyrus

With such a high demand for the release of this cover, Miley Cyrus has won us all over with her version of ‘Heart of Glass’. The song originally released by Blondie has given a completely new upbeat sound by Miley! We all know and love Miley’s unique voice and it completely crushes this song. It makes us just want to play it again and again.

‘Manic (Deluxe)’ – Halsey

Halsey was the birthday queen this week and graciously gifted us with the deluxe version of her multi-platinum album Manic. It features an additional 11 tracks, including new songs ‘wipe your tears’ and ‘I’m Not Mad’. But the treats don’t stop there, hit tunes ‘Be Kind’ and her ‘Without You’ collab with Juice Wrld are on there too. Alongside that, we also have the acoustic songs she played at her Magnum live-streamed set a month ago AND a music video to ‘929’, so we really have been spoiled for choice!

Bad Liar – Super Junior D&E

And the boys are back! It’s only been a month since Super Junior D&E had us dancing along to mini-album BAD BLOOD but they’ve already released a special repackaged version BAD LIAR. While the original was filled with retro vibes, the two new songs on the repackage couldn’t be more different. The title track ‘No Love’ adds some pretty risque lyrics to a modern trap beat for an irresistible result. The MV sees Donghae and Eunhyuk performing on a sleek, reflective set and looking ready to party in luxurious sparkly jackets. They may sing about being bad in the video, but if their warm smiles didn’t give the game away, their second single ‘What’s Your Name’ sure does. Featuring stellar vocals from bandmate Shindong, this track is a cheesy but hilarious lovesong to their fans E.L.F.!

‘Better’ – The Vamps

Have we mentioned lately how much we love The Vamps? Our boys just keep on feeding us the content we crave, and we can’t wait to indulge. Their latest track ‘Better’ is more than addicting, it’s got all the things we love about The Vamps that’s keeps us hooked! The addition to their new sound on this song adds an extra hint of invigorating dance beats that consumes our entire being (in the best way possible!) We expected explosive things from this new era, but it so far has exceeded all of our wildest expectations and we are LIVING for it.

Mama’s Boy – LANY

Our minds were blown when we listened to LANY‘s latest collection of exquisitely beautiful songs. From the previously released ‘you’ ‘cowboy in LA’ and ‘if this is the last time’ to the unreleased ‘paper’ ‘when your drunk’ and ‘sad’ every song has its own fresh story. From an apparent place of self-reflection, doubt, love, and raw emotion this album has something for everyone and we cannot get enough of it!

Julia really manages to capture the crazy spectrum of love and emotions in this song and we love that! We wouldn’t lie to you, check it out!

‘I’d rather Die Than Let You In’ – The Hunna

This record is the furthest thing from a ‘Gory Story’. I’d Rather Die Than Let You In, sees The Hunna solidify their position on the international rock stage. The record was produced and written in conjunction with punk legend John Feldman, so we had high expectations and these were all surpassed in heaps and bounds! This is an album that will have you head banging one minute to ‘I Wanna Know’ and sobbing into your pillow minutes later to ‘One Day You’ll Be Thanking Me’.

A Blue State – Tayla Parx

Tayla Parx has not come to mess around this week. ‘A Blue State’ is an EP that calls for unity in turbulent times and it couldn’t come at a better time. Parx’s soft and soulful vocals dance over the three tracks to create a soft funk to ‘What’s Going On’ while upbeat disco bass lines join the party on ‘Everything Is Everything’ and ‘I Smile’. If you’re not listening to Tayla this weekend then you’re living life wrong!
