Two years after ‘Boo’d up’, the British songstress Ella Mai returns with the highly anticipated release of her latest single ‘Not Another Love Song.’ Mai announced her musical return earlier this week via her Instagram account where she shared a photo of herself in the studio with her pup captioning, “Thierry’s reaction when he found out new music is coming before Scorpio season.” This is the first single since the release of her self-titled debut album in 2018 that featured her previous hit singles ‘Trip’ and ‘Boo’d Up’.
The latest single is super sizzling, captivating and has a groovy vibe blended perfectly with Mai’s smooth vocals that draw us back into her world where we find her, trying to fend off the love bug, though she realizes her feelings may be too strong to ignore. While staying true to her roots, the latest release shows a remarkable growth in her music as the maturity in her vocals and the song delivery is undeniably bold. Speaking of the song, Mai said, “The song reflects the feeling of ‘falling in love but not wanting to admit it’, so it’s quite vulnerable.” (via press release)
Mai marked the release of her latest single by appearing on Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty Show Vol. 2 and giving a stellar live performance for the first time which was exclusively premiered worldwide on Amazon Prime on October 2. She will also appear on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this coming Tuesday, October 6 for her first television performance of the new single.
Mai’s musical journey began in 2014 when she auditioned for The X Factor as a trio. Her previous release ‘Boo’d Up’ in 2018 was an ultimate game-changer that was loved by her audience and broke the record for the most weeks at No. 1 of any song by a woman on the R&B/Hip-Hop Billboard Airplay chart. This led the London-born 25-year-old singer and songwriter to win her first Grammy award for the best R&B song in 2019 which was a remarkable achievement.
In addition to her chart-topping domination and success, Ella Mai has won several awards, including her first GRAMMY for Best R&B Song, three Billboard Music Awards including the coveted Top R&B Artist, three iHeart Radio awards including R&B Artist of the Year, three Soul Train Awards, and a BET Viewers’ Choice Award.
