This is not a drill y’all, Joohoney of Monsta X is releasing his 4th mixtape! Two years after the release of DWTD, Joohoney will be releasing Psyche, packed with seven tracks all written, produced, and performed by Joohoney. The mixtape is set to drop on October 9th at midnight EST, and as you can imagine, Monbebe are beyond excited for new music from Joohoney! Even non-fans are thrilled; Joohoney has made quite the name for himself in KPOP.
While he carries the title of the main rapper in Monsta X, that title only covers a small portion of the many hats that Joohoney wears. From rapping, singing, dancing, writing, and producing, it is very clear that Joohoney can pretty much do it all (and his loving personality is just the icing on the cake!).
As we wait for the release of his new mixtape, the KPOP team here at The Honey POP wanted to share some of our favorite Joohoney verses from his solo projects and songs with Monsta X. Honestly, every verse that Joohoney has rapped/sang is incredible, and picking only a few were hard to do. But, we could agree on a couple that we felt were must listens, especially if you are a new fan! From meaningful lyrics to a killer flow, here are some of our favorites!
If you’re psyched for Joohoney’s new mixtape, then you definitely need to listen to his last release, DWTD. ‘Red Carpet’, the lead track from this mixtape, is a perfect example of Joohoney’s duality, showcasing the rapper side most will know, and the softer side that we love seeing make an appearance.
Once you hear this song, you won’t question why ‘Tropical Night’ is a fan favorite (sorry Minhyuk). Especially Joohoney’s verse; the flow, immaculate.
From Monsta X’s last comeback, we have the masterpiece that is ‘Flow.’ Joohoney’s verses set the tone for the song; it’s powerful, meaningful, and on repeat.
Another example of the kind of power and impact that Joohoney carries when he raps, ‘Deja Vu’, is a song that must be listened to!
Also from Fantasia X, this song was written, composed, and produced by Joohoney and I.M. With lyrics like “After pain comes joy/Happiness comes after joy/After happiness, love comes/Don’t frown, everything will come,” ‘Stand Up’ has quickly become an anthem for Monbebe; it was written for the fans as a song of strength and encouragement, which fans get much of from Joohoney’s work.
‘Should I do’
The first track on DWTD is yet another example of that killer flow we are always talking about when it comes to Joohoney; it deserves a lot of appreciation.
‘Bam! Bam! Bam!’
‘Bam! Bam! Bam!’ is a track by Justin OH and DJ H.ONE, who you may also know as Hyungwon from Monsta X. Joohoney’s feature on his fellow member’s track is one that needs to be talked about more. It is a great example of his lyrics and flow; this song becomes the perfect package with that deep bass.
Bonus – ‘Sambakja’
Stop. What. You’re. Doing. And. Listen. To. This. Song. We are praying for the day we get the studio version. ‘Sambakja’ (Triple Rhythm) not only shows Joohoney’s power as a rapper (along with member I.M) but that they are indeed triple threats. From rapping to writing and producing, Joohoney is ready to deal with any haters who may come their way; he has the talent, and he has the drive. Haters can try to tear them down, but Joohoney and his members are not going anywhere.
We know whatever Joohoney has prepared for this new mixtape, it’s about to rock our world!
