5 Reasons Why You Should Watch Julie and the Phantoms

If you’re anything like us you’ve probably spent the last several months binge-watching the same shows over and over again. While there’s nothing wrong with that, it does mean we sometimes miss out on new shows. That’s why we here at The Honey POP want to spotlight one of our new favorite Netflix’s shows: Julie and the Phantoms.

Inspired by a Brazilian show of the same name, Julie and the Phantoms centers on Julie, a young teenager who’s passion for music has dwindled after the death of her mother. However, things begin to change for Julie when she accidentally summons three members of the 90s band Sunset Curve who passed away as teenagers. Together, this misfit group helps each other live out their dreams and fall back in love with music.

Sounds amazing right? In case you’re still not convinced here are five reasons that’ll change your mind:

The Premise Is Fun And New

As we said, Julie and the Phantoms follow Julie as she falls back in love with music with the help of three ghosty boy band members from the 90s. Aka it’s every fan girls’ dream!

There are also several twists and turns throughout the series from other ghosts roaming around to evil curses and of course love stories! Be grateful for Netflix’s autoplay feature once you start watching!

The Characters Are Diverse And Entertaining

Diversity is so important nowadays and Julie and the Phantoms seriously knock it out of the park when it comes to positive representations.

While characters of color are often background characters that’s certainly not the case when it comes to Julie and the Phantoms. Julie herself is Latina and is played by Madison Reyes who is Puerto Rican. Also, Julie’s best friend Flynn is played by the young black actress Jadah Marie. Together, these two women of color break take the world by storm and prove that characters of color can be the leads on TV.

Julie and the Phantoms also includes an adorable and equally as important same-sex relationship. We don’t want to spoil anything but trust us when we say it’s wholesome and relatable.

It Has An Amazing Soundtrack

Aside from having amazing characters and a heartfelt story, Julie and the Phantoms also has one of the best soundtracks of all time! Every episode in the nine-episode series features at least one song and they get better and better. From dance anthems to ballads that will leave you in tears you definitely won’t be disappointed when it comes to the music.

We also think its insanely cool that the entire cast actually sang and played their own instruments. In fact, Jeremy Shada who plays Reggie is also in a band when he’s not acting.

Here’s a clip from one of our favorite songs featured on the show:
