Draped in jewelry, strapped with leather and wrapped in silk, is how Rina Sawayama makes her late-night premiere with Jimmy Fallon! To make the most striking of impressions, she performed her hit single, ‘XS’ off of her latest album, Sawayama. You could say that the whole performance was a little bit ‘XS’-sive… like she’d ever waste an opportunity to express herself!
As you can see, she came in, reminding us all of Beyoncé with her backlit, microphone-angled poses. At the minimum, she definitely borrowed the queen’s gigantic tour fans. There is no time for games – she is here to impress. She waves a gigantic, glimmering blue ring in our faces while her dancers spin around her in bedazzled masks. Who says COVID-restricted performances can’t be plastered with glitter?

Okay, also – her facial expressions. Are you seeing this? It’s a little hard to catch at moments… thanks, intentionally-wobbly camera guy… but she clearly knows that everything she does, is part of the show. The snarls, the shock, the death stares! There’s an entire performance unfolding across her face alone.
Gimme Just A Little Bit More (About Rina)
Unfamiliar with Rina Sawayama? She’s a Japanese-born British singer with a brand new approach to pop, electronic and alternative music! This track may sound like it’s ’90’s pop-influenced – but that’s definitely not her only sound. You can check out her original music video for ‘XS’ above, or click here for five reasons to become a fan of hers (they’re called Pixels!).

What did you think of the performance? What would you imagine it would have been like, restriction-free? In your dreams, is this how Rina Sawayama makes her late-night premiere with Jimmy Fallon?
