Fresh Music Friday: Little Mix, Miley Cyrus, Monsta X… and MORE!

Welcome to Fresh Music Friday; where every week we at The Honey POP will be giving you the lowdown on this week’s sweetest releases! Here’s your chance to see what your faves have been up to as well as discover some new music which you can easily fall in love with.

Confetti – Little Mix

At long last, Little Mix have blessed us all with their sixth studio album Confetti! Serving us pure pop perfection, the album serves a great dynamic of different sub-categories of pop. ‘Break Up Song’ and ‘Holiday‘ embody the 80s revival trend of 2020, while  ‘Happiness‘ and ‘If You Want My Love’ give us more R’n’B vibes with profound pop production. While their latest single ‘Sweet Melody‘ is fierce and winning the hearts of Mixers and locals alike, we’re also in love with other tracks like the empowering ‘Gloves Up’ and the sexy ‘Rendezvous’ which samples Dean Martain’s ‘Sway’ bringing an older song into the music of today.

From love songs, heartbreaks, big bops, and ballads, this album proves Little Mix are truly a pop powerhouse. There’s something for everyone in this album and we at Fresh Music Friday think it’s going to translate so well when performed live. Girls, you did it again!

‘Midnight Sky (Edge of Midnight)’ – Miley Cyrus ft Stevie Nicks

Miley Cyrus drops ‘Midnight Sky’ (Edge of Midnight) featuring Stevie Nicks -this is one you don’t want to miss. These two are a powerhouse and we cannot get enough of their voices together! The guitars on this one stand out the most with this song, with a lot of focus on Miley’s and Stevie’s voices. This one is for sure more upbeat and more of a get-up and dance song. It’s something we didn’t know we needed until we got it. Make sure to add this one to your playlist!

Fatal Love – Monsta X

Monsta X are here to slay, chill and kill with their 3rd full-length Korean album Fatal Love. The record plays like a darker version of their English release All About Luv as it explores the theme of a romance that is both beautiful and deadly. Once again proving there’s no genre they can’t conquer, the ten heavy-hitting tracks range from hip-hop to EDM, to R&B. The standout feature of this album is that the line distribution is notably more equal than previous releases, with vocalists Minhyuk and Hyungwon getting the chance to show off their beautiful voices.

The maknae line also staked their claim to this era with their fire raps and unrivaled chemistry. Member Joohoney co-composed ‘Stand Together’ and ‘Beastmode’ (alongside Eric Nam), while I.M wrote the song ‘Night View’. Plus, we just can’t get over their performance in the music video for title track ‘Love Killa’. Fresh Music Friday approved!

‘Mood (Remix)’ – 24kGoldn, Iann Dior ft Justin Bieber & J Balvin‬

This song is certainly not playing by the rules. This song in itself is a complete slap – but with features like this, it’s no surprise it’s landing itself on our Freshest of Fresh Music Friday. Some serious heavy hitters on one song, 24kGoldn, Iann Dior ft Justin Bieber & J Balvin team up to make this song even better before – if possible. Our verdict? It’s possible. A perfect addition to a mood pumping playlist, you’ve gotta check this one out! ‬

All In – Stray Kids

With their first Japanese mini-album, Stray Kids really went All In. With 7 tracks, this EP feels like a nutshell of Stray Kids’ biggest year yet. They included the rock-driven OST for Tower of God released earlier this year, as well as the Japanese version of their iconic songs, ‘God’s Menu’ and ‘Back Door’. But what’s even better is the energetic and powerful ‘All In’, as well as the hip-hop driven track ‘FAM’ and the more chill ‘One Day’. If there was to be only one mini-album that could summarize Stray Kids’ versatility and talent, this is it.

‘ATM’ – Bree Runway ft Missy Elliot

Bree Runway, up and comer to rap royalty, has delivered a song with talking about. This jam pushes all our buttons, in all the best ways. Pop-produced, bad-ass bitch realness, this song is a slam, and did we mention? Missy Elliot? Absolutely eats her verse (as always); we’re proud of Bree Runway for landing this feature. She deserves it. And apparently, what we deserve is another ass-shaking single because that’s what we’ve been delivered.

Travel – Mamamoo

Mamamoo has returned with their 10th mini-album! Travel is an outstanding mini-album and title track ‘Aya’ has us excited with its first few notes! Mamamoo has outdone themselves again and we are not complaining. ‘Aya’ is pure fun and puts you in a good mood right away. The EP has something for all of our needs. We even get a classic Mamamoo ballad with ‘Good Night’. The album perfectly shows off the girl group’s strengths and we want to thank them for returning to us finally as a full group. The year has been filled with solo activities for the members but nothing hits as much as a full Mamamoo comeback!

DISCO – Kylie Minogue

Our DISCO queen Kylie Minogue has dropped a corker of an album this week! After one of the most nail-biting weeks of 2020, a bit of disco-funk is just what we needed. We at Fresh Music Friday have been crying out for her return to dance floor grooves all year and we’re over the moon that it’s finally arrived. Some of our favorite tracks include ‘Real Groove’ a rhythm-filled bop, ‘I Love It’ an upbeat funk, and ‘Dance Floor Darling’ a harmonic tune that will have you rock and rolling through the night. If you want to lift your spirits this weekend, then this is the soundtrack for you!

The First Step: Chapter 3 – Treasure

YG Entertainment rookies Treasure are back with their 3rd single during this second half of the year! The group has been rather busy since debut and keeps delivering bops from ‘Boy’ to ‘I Love You’ to ‘MMM’! The group has various strengths and amazing rappers and ‘MMM’ is a song that shows them off! The second song on the single album ‘Orange’ was produced by nonother than member Asahi and it’s a beautiful ballad to show off the group’s vocalist. These rookies really know how to make music.

Happiest Season Soundtrack

We’re feeling super festive here at Fresh Music Friday. If you have been looking forward to any news from Happiest Season, well they just released the soundtrack. All the original tracks include LGBTQIA+ songwriters and/or singers! The 11 tracks include Anne-Marie, Bebe Rexha Brandy Clark, Carlie Hanson, Jake Wesley Rogers, Shea Diamond, and Sia. There are some amazing covers that dare we say sound as good as the original? The soundtrack also has that wonderful Christmas sound, with a more modern pop twist. The original songs are more upbeat and help set up for what we assume, is going to finally be a happy rom-com LBGTQIA+ movie. It really gives you that comfy Christmas feeling, but more diverse and modern. Make sure to catch the movie out on November 25th.

EXO-Ls Chanyeol is back with a new OST and this time it is for a webtoon. It couldn’t be softer! Chanyeol shows his charming and mellow side with this song and we love to cuddle up in bed with a cup of tea. His soft rap makes this song even more enjoyable! More like this, please! We need minimal warmth.

We cannot get enough of it, and it’s the perfect edition to our holiday playlist!

‘Gimme Some Truth’ – Billie Joe Armstrong

In the wake of a nail biting US election, everyone’s fav punk rocker Billie Joe Armstrong has dropped a John Lennon cover ‘Gimme Some Truth’. His band Green Day are no strangers to a bit of political inspiration and their distaste for Donald Trump is well documented. So when we found out he’d covered this new track, we had high expectations that have been blown away! This an angry punk song to add to your playlists this weekend so what are you waiting for? Get up, have a bit of a head bang and check your vote!
