NCT Are Showing Us Some ’90s Love’ With Pt.2 of NCT 2020

2020 has been a non-stop year for NCT. Now the K-Pop group is back once more with Pt. 2 of NCT 2020, RESONANCE PT. 2 (which you can stream here). After how amazing RESONANCE PT. 1 did last month, with the album landing on the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 (plus those 1.2 million sales the first week of its release), the expectations for Pt. 2 were high. Well, we can confidently say that NCT met those expectations, and delivered us eight new songs that not only pay homage to the 90s’ with their sound but showcase NCT’s talent at it’s finest.

’90’s Love’

The lead track for this round is ’90’s Love’, which features member WinWin taking the lead of this unit that includes Ten, Mark, Jeno, Haechan, YangYang, and Sungchan! The song continues with the retro trend we have been seeing so much this year and pays homage to old-school 90s hip-hop. The second you listen to the song, the style becomes clear, and NCT does a stellar job at taking the 90s’ and giving it a modern twist. It makes for a flawless music combination, producing a sound that only NCT can. If you haven’t checked out the MV for this song, it’s a must, as NCT takes to the ice for a video that is both fun and shows off that NCT choreography we love so much (and honestly, low-key gave us Mighty Duck vibes).

‘Raise The Roof’

Taeil, Johnny, Yuta, Kun, Jungwoo, Hendery, Renjun, Chenle, and Jisung come together for the hip-hop track ‘Raise The Roof.’ This combination of the vocalists and rappers works perfectly to give us a song that has amazing harmony, and the synth-beats we also hear make this track stand out. It is a track that has quickly been noticed by the fans, and we’re on the same page as them!

‘My Everything’

Our vocal kings Taeil, Xiaojun, and Renjun come together for one of the sweetest ballads we think we have heard from NCT; ‘My Everything.’ You can’t help but fall in love with these three when you hear this song; three members who are known for their beautiful and powerful voices. Their vocals come together for a combination we could have only thought of in our dreams, and it’s songs like this one that makes us love projects such as NCT 2020. Each member is in a separate unit, but we’re praying we get more songs in the future with these three because ‘My Everything’ is a gem, and we need more of it.

‘Work It’

‘Work It’ is the second title track of this album and features Johnny, Yuta, Ten, Jungwoo, Hendery, Jaemin, and Jisung. It is the EDM song of our dreams and one we can picture playing during a night out at a club (when it is safe to go out again, of course)! Better yet, picture hearing this song at a concert and how hyped up the crowd would be! Combining these members makes it a hit, and we’re ready to see this unit take to the stage to promote it! Also, we’re getting the MV for the song on November 27th, and based on the teaser photos (and some spoilers thanks to the boys), we think we’re in for a disco treat!

‘All About You’

‘All About You’ is a song that takes you by surprise. We start with Jaehyun’s sweet vocals, followed by Jungwoo, Sungchan, and Chenle, taking us into the chorus where the light synth-beat hits. Shotaro, Mark, and Hendery also offer their vocals in this track, and we have to say that we are blown away by the rappers and their vocals, especially from newcomers Sungchan and Shotaro. This sweet pop song feels like you’re in a dream. There is something light about the song that makes it one of our favorites, and this combination of members gave us an unexpected result in the best way.

Now ‘I.O.U’ is an interesting song for the simple fact that we can hear bits of several genres in this song. It has elements of hip-hop, R&B, pop, synth-beats all coming together to produce a song that we didn’t expect to get the chills from. But how can we not when those vocals come together for a perfect harmony that only NCT vocalists can deliver. Taeyong, Kun, Doyoung, Yangyang, Shotaro, Chenle, and Jisung give us a track, unlike something we have heard from NCT before this album. It carries on the idea of 90s music meets a modern twist; if you couldn’t tell, we’re fans!

‘Interlude: Present to Future’ and ‘Outro: Dream Routine’

The interludes and outros featured on NCT’s albums are not talked about enough when they should be. ‘Interlude: Present to Future’ gives us a transition to the songs ‘Work It,’ ‘All About You,’ and ‘I.O.U.’ The songs are notably a newer sound that NCT is experimenting with, and this interlude is the preview to that and works with these tracks perfectly. ‘Outro: Dream Routine’ is the ending to the album that not only could be giving us a heads up of the sounds to expect from future NCT music but has sounds that bring the album full circle, making it a fitting conclusion.

NCT 2020 has, without a doubt, been a wild ride. The group was able to show us new members, their unique sound, and a glimpse of what the future of NCT could look like. They are a group that blends retro and modern to form a sound that is all NCT. This ‘noise’ music makes NCT stand out in the K-Pop industry and one of the reasons why they have solidified themselves as one of the top boy groups. Very few are doing it like NCT and if you’re looking to stan them, RESONANCE PT. 2 is the perfect place to start.
