The new Promising Young Woman soundtrack is sweet and serrated. In other words, a sugar-coated knife blade. The glimmer of broken glass. It’s perfect for the long-awaited feature film, which is set for release in theaters on Christmas Day. Shimmering with feminine star-power, this soundtrack features the likes of Charli XCX, Fletcher, Sky Ferreira, and Paris Hilton (yes, her!).
A Promising Young Trailer
This film follows former ‘promising young woman’ Cassie (Carey Mulligan) as she navigates the trauma of a much-disputed event that scuffed her shining title. Through her thrilling, vengeful adventures, she encounters a marvelous cast (there are so many stars on this project that constellations are forming), including Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Jennifer Coolidge, and Laverne Cox.
The Sharpest And The Sweetest Tracks

Cassie has a much longer list, counting- undisclosed events. Here’s a much more brief list of the soundtrack’s best moments.
‘Uh-Oh’ by Cyn
How does Cyn squeak her voice against the track like that? Her low, playful growl keeps listeners a little too close for comfort. Before the film’s original release date in April 2020, she actually released a different song from this soundtrack, entitled ‘Drinks.’ It was well-received, now with over 2 million views on YouTube. It captures the mood just as well as smeared lipstick on a mirror, so definitely go and listen to that one, too.
‘Last Laugh’ by Fletcher
Oh, the chorus on this one. Wait to hear the “last laugh” that Fletcher is talking about– bass-line low, dripping with attitude. Honestly, if Joker ever gets adapted into a teen drama like every other piece of beloved media, this track would fit right in. According to Fletcher’s Twitter, there’s a music video arriving shortly, and she’s definitely positioned to have the last laugh, so everybody else is in trouble.
‘Selenas’ by Maya B
There are a lot of cute, unique things going on here. The dark synth rumbling beneath Maya B’s voice, which is juxtaposed with her bright, gyrating vocal patterns? Her personality shines and is instantly likable at that. Then, the collection of percussive elements – clapping, bells, drums – fill the song with audible texture. This song was released in 2018– how did anyone ever miss this gem?
