Harry Styles. As soon as you hear this name, you’re bound to feel sparks in your heart and a smile creeps on your face, unknowingly. Harry is ‘The Eternal Sunshine,’ as once described by Rolling Stone, an absolute heartthrob with charming looks, contagious smile (with cute dimples), and has an amiable heartwarming personality that has won over the hearts of millions of people around the globe.
The 26-year-old-British pop-rock singer, songwriter, actor, model, fashion icon, and philanthropist (whew! what is it that this man can’t do) has grown up from a teenage heartthrob to a global sensational pop star right before us and we couldn’t be more proud to see him climbing the stairs of success. Embarking his musical career in 2010, he appeared as a contestant on Season 7 of The X Factor UK, with his eyes brimming with the dreams and hopes for the future and later becoming part of one of the most successful and revolutionary boyband of all times, One Direction, that rewrote the history. Since then, Harry has continued to work hard, carving a way for his solo career and making his own mark on the world by delivering blockbuster music which is in fact, it’s least to say, is phenomenal.
Following the success of his self-titled debut solo album, Harry released his highly-anticipated sophomore album Fine Line a year ago via Columbia Records and Erskine, on the tail end of 2019 that ended and began a decade with a bang. And if that’s not enough, it also banged the ending of 2020 by gaining GRAMMY nominations for three prestigious honours that marks Harry’s first-ever GRAMMY nominations which are extremely well deserving!
Upon the release, Styles’ stans on social media went into a frenzy and drowned fully into emotions. Indeed, he took his own time perfecting every aspect of the album himself but when he finally handed his masterpiece to us, it was all worth the wait every second. As soon as you hit the play button and start listening to the album, no matter if you’re an old or new fan, you are bound to be ‘falling’ in love with Harry Styles, in case you aren’t already.
Heavily influenced by his personal music taste from 70s rock style, Fine Line is a 12-tracks-long emotional rollercoaster which was described by Harry himself as being “all about having sex and feeling sad.” Primarily a pop-rock album that incorporates elements of psychedelic pop, soul, folk, indie etc, it showcases his dynamic talent and versitalilty as an artist since his previous solo release and a remarkable evolution as a human being throughout the years. Studded with Harry’s mellifluous vocals and soul-stirring relatable lyrics like “Put a price on emotion/ I’m looking for something to buy,” or “What if I’m someone I don’t want around?,’ or “And I’m just an arrogant son of a b*tch.” (Okay Harry, stop calling me out now!), Fine Line explores the universal themes of self-identity, sexuality, love, acceptance, loneliness, relationships, and humanity, uniquely alluding his personal experiences.
The album opens with upbeat and lively ‘Golden’ that instantly draws you in. This indie-pop mellow romantic melody with powerful backing vocals solidifies the foundation for the album. This lighthearted song is all about taking a risk in love and staying hopeful. With so many metaphors, the ending verse “You’re so golden” implies that he found his person who is his sun, his hope, and his love for whom he’s willing to take all the risks and make this work.
This is followed by three vibrant and electrified singles ‘Watermelon Sugar’, ‘Adore You’ and ‘Lights Up.’ There marks a shift in the sequence of the album as melancholic ballads ‘Cherry,’ ‘Falling’ and ‘To Be So Lonely’ come up followed by sultry ‘She’ and feel-good tunes ‘Sunflower Vol. 6,’ ‘Canyon Moon’ and ‘Treat People With Kindness.’ This magical musical melange ends on transportive acoustic number ‘Fine Line’ which is the title track and defines the fine line between love and hate. It embodies the essence of the entire album which makes it a brilliant wrap for the Fine Line.
Harry released the album’s lead single ‘Lights Up’ on October 11, 2019, with the music video and shortly before its release, the album was promoted by billboards captioning “Do You Know Who You Are?” in different cities around the world.
On December 6th, second single, ‘Adore You’ was released with an extended version narrated by Rosalía and it is by far the most successful single of the album. Harry went extremely creative and elaborative with his team for the promotion of ‘Adore You’ by establishing a fictitious island called Eroda that began appearing on social media as well as has an independent website.
He also collaborated with Spotify to organize a fan-exclusive event held at an undisclosed location in LA for a private listening party where fans were taken to experience Eroda. And he didn’t stop there. Harry held a one-night-only show at The Forum in LA that coincided with the album’s release date, December 13th, 2019. He released an aesthetically pleasing and soothing-to-eyes music video for the emotional ballad ‘Falling’ on February 28th.
Later in the year, Styles released a quirky and fun-loving music video for the upbeat ‘Watermelon Sugar High’ where he’s shown enjoying a watermelon party on the beach (and sadly, we were not invited). He also performed the single on Saturday Night Live.
Directed by Ben Turner and Gabe Turner, the music video for the final single from the album ‘Golden’ was premiered on October 26th, 2020, where Harry was brimming with the ‘Golden‘ and being absolute sunshine.
Supported by five singles, Fine Line debuted at No.3 on the UK Albums Chart and No.1 on the Billboard 200, making it Styles’ second consecutive No. 1 album in the US. The album broke the record for the biggest debut from a British male artist and topped the Billboard chart with the equivalent of 478,000 in opening sales of album-equivalent units i.e. a mix of streaming, digital sales and vinyl. Fine Line has been certified platinum or higher in over 12 countries with singles securing individual gold, platinum and higher certifications and sold album-equivalent units of over two million units in the US alone. Fine Line managed to double the first-week total for Styles’ solo debut, self-titled release from 2017, which secured 230,000 equivalent units in the opening week. To this date, the album has garnered approximately 3.2 billion streams on Spotify music and secured a combined of 1.056 billion views on YouTube (combining- official music videos, audios and YouTube premium streams) which is definitely legendary. Fine Line received overall positive reviews from music critics and was nominated for various awards throughout the year. Harry won at the American Music Awards 2020 for the category ‘Favorite Pop/Rock Album’ and the ARIA Music Awards for ‘Best International Artist- Fine Line.’ He was also nominated for the Brit Awards and BreakTude Awards (Brazil) for ‘Album of the year’ and recently named as Variety’s hitmaker of the year. At the very latest, he has been nominated for prestigious GRAMMY awards for three categories- Fine Line- Best Pop Vocal Album, ‘Watermelon Sugar’- Best Pop Solo Performance and ‘Adore You’- Best Music Video. The results are due on January 31, 2020 (fingers crossed)!
Harry loves to be experimental with his fashion which was quite reflective during the Fine Line era. He showed that he is not afraid to embrace his feminine side by adopting more fluidity in fashion. According to him, “What’s masculine, what’s feminine. It’s like there are no lines anymore.”
Harry is currently shooting for ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ an upcoming American psychological horror film directed by Olivia Wilde, starring Florence Pugh and himself in the lead alongside Chris Pine, Gemma Chan and KiKi Layne. Even after achieving massive commercial success, Harry’s idea of ‘what success means to him’ touches our hearts. After successfully touring his self-titled debut album, he spent a lot of time in rethinking his idea of success as he said,
I think if you’re making what you want to make, then ultimately no one can tell you that you’re unsuccessful, because you’re doing what makes you happy.

We think that’s the reason why millions of fans from every corner of the world idolizes Harry Styles. His personality reflects that authenticity and his aura is truly magical. He is not just a handsome, talented and an ambitious musician on a spree of delivering hits, but he’s a very grounded, humble, compassionate, witty and lovely human being who is considerate about others and tells the same to his massive following by ‘Treat People With Kindness.’ When he’s not making music and working on other projects, you will find him working on philanthropy- donating millions to charities and raising awareness about various social causes.
And we aren’t the only ones who think this, but you’ll hear just the same by almost everyone who has ever worked with or met Harry. Most importantly, even after achieving a ridiculous amount of fame in the early years and continuing to do so, he didn’t leave his roots and remembered where he belongs to that earns an impeccable amount of respect! In the end, we think it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Harry Styles is an old soul with a young expressive mind while keeping the kid inside him alive. Feeling proud of him is an understatement!
