Here’s How Little Mix Made 2020 Their Year

This article was written before the announcement of Jesy leaving Little Mix. Though we like our fellow Mixers are devastated about her departure, we want to still share the achievements and highlights of the girls because even during what is inevitably the most difficult years we have had in a long time, they still strived to carry on and brought smiles to our faces during dark times. We love all four of the girls with our whole hearts and wish Jesy the best and are here to support Perrie, Leigh-Anne and Jade as they continue as a trio.

2020 is going to be one that goes in the history books, mostly for reasons we’d rather not remember, But while we were met with a complete rollercoaster of a year, there were actually some highs, and for Little Mix, they still managed to do and achieve quite a lot! We’re taking a look over the past twelve months and looking at how they still managed to make 2020 their year.

Little Mix has a passionate Brazilian fanbase, and after many years of waiting, the girls were invited to perform as part of the GRLS festival in Sao Paolo and smashed it! Unfortunately, Perrie was unable to perform due to illness and was left devastated. Still, Jesy, Leigh-Anne, and Jade smashed it, and hopefully, this will be the first of many performances there.

Coming to our rescue releasing their lead single ‘Break Up Song’

March was a rough one. We saw the world come to a close and had to come to terms with the fact that life as we knew it was about to change for the foreseeable future. However, Little Mix boosted morale when they dropped the lead single from the Confetti era and had us heading over to TikTok to learn and perform the choreo. That helped us kill some time in quarantine, and it got excited for the new era ahead. The song fitted in this year’s popular “nostalgic 80s” trend that influenced many big releases, so it had us reeling in that disco fever. Oh, and did we mention the single was certified Gold in the UK?

Jade hosting her own MTV series

Even during quarantine, we were still fed with plenty of content, especially thanks to Miss Jade Thirlwall and her online MTV series Served! which saw the singer interviewing drag queens and competing against them in cook-offs for our entertainment. As a drag queen enthusiast, we know this was an amazing opportunity for Jade, and it certainly lifted our spirits during bleak times.

‘Holiday’ was our Summer anthem

While travel bans were in place following the pandemic this year, Little Mix had us hungry for a vacay with the release of their single ‘Holiday.’ Though they were now able to shoot in a studio for this music video, social distancing was very much still in place and had them shooting solo shots which weren’t something they’re used to, though they still managed to make it look like a mermaid paradise. The single also became certified Silver in the UK and ties with ‘Break Up Song’ as their longest-charting song from Confetti and longest charting single in 2020 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart. They just keep slaying!

They blew us away with their Uncancelled performance

Mixers were gutted when the Summer Hits 2020 tour was canceled following the pandemic, but thanks to Meerkat Music, the girls were able to offer the next best thing with Little Mix: Uncancelled, a virtual concert performance We were blessed with the debut performances of ‘Break Up Song’ and ‘Holiday’ as well as hits such as ‘Woman Like Me’ ‘Wings’ and “Shoutout To My Ex.’ It helped cushion the blow of losing out seeing them live in person and got us even more hyped for their next tour, which was later announced as the Confetti tour for 2021.

Little Mix: The Search gave us the best singing reality TV show in some time

We’ve not had a new reality talent show in some time, but this year Little Mix blessed us with something fresh, and it was everything. The Search was a talent search looking for budding artists to create five new bands who competed against each other to win themselves a spot on the girls’ next tour as their opening act. Since September was crowned as the winners and are gearing up for the Confetti Tour, while other bands from the competition are planning on sticking together – keep your eyes peeled for the hottest new bands courtesy of our girls! The show also went on to be awarded ‘Best Talent Show’ at the Talk Telly Awards, and we’re pretty confident as the awards season creeps up on us that there’s every chance they’ll be bagging more in the new year.

They sang us a ‘Sweet Melody’ with their third single of the year

It feels like this year each single seemed to outdo the other in quality. We thought ‘Break Up Song’ was their peak until ‘Holiday’ showed up, and then ‘Sweet Melody‘ sashayed onto the scene, and honestly, our wigs weren’t just snatched, they were disintegrated. The music video, the lyrics, the choreo, the outfits, like they outdid themselves with this one and we can see this one featuring on a ‘Greatest Hits’ compilation someday.

The release of Confetti was the crescendo of their 2020 releases

Of course, the build-up of the singles leads to the grand finale which was the release of their sixth studio album Confetti. From love songs, heartbreaks, big bops, and ballads, this album proved Little Mix is truly a pop powerhouse. It received a score of 74 out of 100 on Metacritic and was also certified Silver in the UK.

They had double duty at the MTV EMAs

MTV EMAs 2020: Little Mix slay on red carpet without Jesy Nelson | Metro News

Though our hearts ached at the absence of Jesy, the rest of the girls took on the role of double duty at the MTV EMAs hosting the virtual awards ceremony as well as performing ‘Sweet Melody.’ We were relishing in the screen time we had of these charismatic queens, proving they’re certainly no one-trick pony. And if that wasn’t enough, they also bagged two awards for Best Pop and Best UK & Ireland Act!

Leigh-Anne teamed up with ASOS to deliver the Leigh-Anne Pinnock edit

Leigh-Anne was invited to be the Style Edit star for ASOS in November which allowed her fashionista side to come out to play as she shared a very 90s-esque theme of both going-out dresses and outfits as well as more casual-wear. You. can shop her edit here, perfect for a Christmas gift for yourself or a Mixer in your life!

‘No Time For Tears’ was the club-friendly essential needed for our holiday playlists

Just when we thought we were given all the music from our girlies this year, they decided to give us an encore by hopping on a Nathan Dawe track for ‘No Time For Tears.’ Written by Jade, Nathan, Tre Jean-Marie, and MNEK, the EDM banger was the perfect early Christmas present for Mixers and makes for great virtual holiday party playlists, and we can’t wait to into the New Year to it.
