Since the surprise release of Taylor Swift’s second album of lockdown, we’ve had evermore on repeat. But the one hour a day we aren’t listening to those 15 flawless tracks, we can’t help but wonder what she’s up to now. Between writing songs, dropping albums, and re-recording old hits, she somehow found the time to catch up with Zane Lowe to tell us all about it.
Not only has Taylor blessed us with insight into the storytelling process behind her new album, but she also talks about winning Apple Music’s Songwriter of the Year Award! The honors are awarded based on both editorial opinions and the worldwide trends of real listeners. Which makes them pretty special; we couldn’t think of a more deserving winner. You can join the celebrations all week as Apple Music celebrates all the winners, with special performances from Roddy Ricch and Lil Baby!
In the interview, Taylor Swift reveals how she feels a sense of completeness and serenity, following the release of evermore. Which is a complete 180° of how she felt after finishing folklore. Despite being overjoyed at the opportunity to share that new chapter in July, she was still buzzing with creative energy and the unquenchable desire to continue collaborating. So, she set off to continue the wonderful collabs with her co-writers, Jack Antonoff (Bleachers), Aaron Dessner (The National), and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). Maybe that’s why evermore is an album that brings so much calm to its listeners during such a difficult year.
“It’s amazing… I’m in this state of like exhaustion but relief but very proud.“Taylor Swift to Zane Lowe for Apple Music
Taylor also talked about how happy she was to write songs about fictional stories and characters, taking the spotlight off herself. Understandably, writing from an introspective point of view as she has before comes with a lot of pressure. Creating her own little world to write about, gave her the chance to explore her creativity and tell stories. Without, setting herself up for a bombardment of media criticism about her personal life. Finally, she shared how lucky she feels that her fans loved this new approach as much as she does.
And I’m so happy that people welcomed it into their lives the way that they did.Taylor Swift to Zane Lowe for Apple Music
In 2020, this year of all years, it’s never been more important to be true to ourselves and make choices that are right for us. With each of her albums this year, Taylor Swift has done just that. With all of the usual decorations falling by the wayside she’s been able to create music that is completely “pure.” Songwriter of the year? More like songwriter of the century.
If that wasn’t enough to convince you that this is an interview any Swiftie needs to hear, we’ve got a sneak peek for you!
The complete interview is available now on Apple Music, Apple Music TV, or the Apple TV® app.
