Dark, hushed, intoxicating, overwhelming – let’s look inside the blurry world of Billie Eilish. The 19-year-old singer/songwriter exists as an absolute contradiction. She’s the most down-to-earth, humble teenager to ever be launched in a near-vertical trajectory at screaming speeds across the face of the music industry. It’s no wonder she’s disoriented! Let’s explore the kaleidoscopic view from her ‘Ocean Eyes.’
She’s probably confusing her camera lenses with her optic lenses in Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry.
Even the trailer for the documentary doesn’t know what to focus on! Whether Billie is spinning around on stage, traveling across the globe, writing/recording/releasing an internationally-lauded masterpiece, or trudging up and down the stairs of the GRAMMY Awards stage – she was being filmed the entire time.
A shiny new GRAMMY Award can be especially blinding – and she’s got 5.
Let’s count those up again: we have Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year (wow, that one’s extra shiny!). By the end of that night, Billie’s reality had surpassed her own wildest dreams. She had swept the Big Four Categories, making her the youngest person to ever do so.
Once such a hardcore Belieber that her parents considered sending her to therapy, she released a collaboration with him just 5 years later.
Both literally and figuratively seeing stars- a video of their first interaction went viral in April 2019, when they met at Coachella, and then this track was released in July. When asked whether he would like to collaborate with Billie on this ‘bad guy’ remix, Justin Bieber reportedly replied: “Duh.”
In 2019, while technically still a teenager, she was crowned Billboard’s Woman of the Year.
“It’s really weird to be woman of the year at 17,” says Billie, who was obviously thankful for the honor but also, rightfully, a little confused. It’s clear that she won the coveted award because she’d become a neon-green beam of light, for female-identifying members of the music industry.
She’s currently creating (and loving) 16 new songs. There’s no way keeping all that explorative, creative excellence isn’t absolutely dizzying.
Hopefully, Billie’s brother and collaborator, Finneas, can help her to keep them all organized. He’s the one making sure she removes her Invisalign, mastering their extensive secret handshakes, and providing a (literal) sounding board for all concepts musically-superior! Referencing the stunning lyrical vulnerability on Billie’s 2019 hit, ‘everything i wanted,’ it’s clear that Finneas brings her blurry world back into focus.
