Ed Sheeran’s ‘Afterglow’ Is Radiating Our Hearts!

Ed Sheeran has finally returned, and we are currently basking in his ‘Afterglow,’ feeling all loved up. 2020 was a dreadful year for most of us, but this is literally the best wrap up for this year!

The world felt a lot emptier when the 29-year-old versatile singer-songwriter and hit-maker Ed Sheeran announced a hiatus from music back in December 2019. We all felt the quietness and our hearts yearned for more magical romantic melodies from our favorite red-head. But considering how hectic Sheeran’s professional schedule had been while he continuously toured for Divide worldwide, alongside making music and delivering hits one after another that gained the singer massive fame and success, this was a well-earned break!

However, it looks like a year’s break was sufficient to get him to return to make music, and we couldn’t feel more excited about it. Ed Sheeran surprised all his fans by being their Secret Santa and released his brand new standalone single titled ‘Afterglow’ today via Warner Music Group, which is the perfect Christmas present for all of us. If you haven’t already listened to this magical song, check it out below.

Sheeran posted on his Instagram account, captioning, “Hey guys. Afterglow is a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you. It’s not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love, and hope you love too. Enjoy! Have a safe and happy festive break and New Year’s. Back to dad land for me now, ciao. x”

Studded with his mellifluous vocals blended perfectly with strums of acoustic guitar, Ed opens this magical love song with wintery vibes singing: “Stop the clocks it’s amazing/ You should see the way the light dances off your hair/ A million colours of hazel, golden and red/ Saturday morning is fading/ The sun’s reflected by the coffee in your hand/ My eyes are caught in your gaze all over again.”

We were love drunk waiting on a miracle/Trying to find ourselves in the winter snow/ So alone in love like the world had disappeared/ Oh I won’t be silent and I won’t let go/ I will hold on tighter ‘til the afterglow/ And we’ll burn so bright ‘til the darkness softly clears/Oh I will hold on to the afterglow.” These heart-warming relatable lyrics have melted our hearts already, and we are in love. And let us tell you, if you aren’t already, then you are bound to fall in love with him now!

‘Afterglow’ comes with a one-take performance video for the song directed by Nic Minns and Zak Walters. You can watch it here:

This is the first-ever release after Ed Sheeran’s previous album No.6 Collaborations Project, released in 2019. The star-studded project featured collaborations with major artists such as Justin Bieber, Travis Scott, Eminem, 50 Cent. Chance the Rapper, Cardi B, Camilla Cabello, Young Thug, Skrillex, Chris Stapleton, Bruno Mars, Stormzy, etc. In April, Ed Sheeran performed at 2020’s virtual PlayOn by Warner Music Group. The funds raised through this three-day long music virtual fest were donated to Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.
