Ah, Christmas. Okay, let’s be real for a moment. When it comes to the Christmas spirit this year, we’re not feeling our usual jolly-selves, perhaps like many of you readers out there. And that’s okay. However, even with us feeling a bit indifferent towards Christmas this year, we always are in the mood to listen to some good covers of Christmas classics. When it comes to the K-Pop industry, there are a lot (and we mean A LOT) of these types of covers across the internet, spanning years. And while it wasn’t easy, we here at The Honey POP have made a list of nine covers from your favorite K-Pop idols that we feel are great to listen to, not only during Christmas but all year round.
‘White’ Cover by Yuta of NCT
Now, NCT is a group that has given us many fantastic Christmas covers; there’s Doyoung’s cover of Taeyeon’s ‘This Christmas,’ Jaehyun’s cover of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,’ and NCT Dream’s ‘JOY’ video. But, there is just something so magical when it comes to Yuta’s cover of TVXQ!’s song ‘White.’ It gives us all those good feelings, maybe even a tear or two, as we watch Yuta walking through NYC at Christmas time, all while hearing his uniquely soothing voice. We could probably write a 10-page dissertation on how beautiful this cover is, but we’ll leave it at this (for now).
‘Santa Tell Me’ Cover by Nayeon of TWICE
We’ve had Ariana Grande’s ‘Santa Tell Me’ on our playlists since its release back in 2014, and it looks like we’re not the only ones who are fans of this tune. Many idols have covered the song, one of them being the lovely Nayeon of TWICE. Nayeon is adorable with her reindeer antlers as she covers this modern Christmas song. Her voice is beyond sweet, fitting the feel of this song perfectly. We also love how she deals with the little lights mishap in the background, quickly making this video one of our favorites. Nayeon kills it with this cover and succeeds at putting a smile on our faces whenever we listen.
‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ Cover by Young K of DAY6
If you have not familiarized yourself with the vocal talent that is Young K, let this cover be your introduction. While we do hear his talents in DAY6 and the subunit Even of Day, this cover of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ showcases how his voice can fit any music style. He makes this cover seem effortless with deep vocals you feel in your soul, and it’s a rendition you might find us listening to even after the holiday season. If you loved this cover, we highly recommend you check out his cover of Frank Sinatra’s ‘Fly Me To The Moon.’ Trust us, you won’t be disappointed.
‘Last Christmas’ Cover by Hongjoong of ATEEZ
This new cover from ATEEZ’s leader blew our minds. You may know Hongjoong mainly for his insane rap abilities, but he has the vocals too. His cover of the classic ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham! has him showcasing these two sides of himself, as he sings the original chorus but then adds his rap verses in between. It is a thoughtful gift for ATINY this holiday season. Plus, we love the fun MV that goes along with it is. We haven’t been able to stop thinking about this cover since it was released a couple of days ago, and we’re willing to bet you’ll have it on your mind, too, after you watch.
‘The Christmas Song’ Cover by Rosé of BLACKPINK
One thing we can say about this cover is that we wish it were longer. Rosé has a distinctly sweet voice, which makes this cover of ‘The Christmas Song’ calming to listen to. She puts so much emotion into this song that we feel warm on the inside like we just had a hot cup of cocoa or are by the fire on a cold day. She takes us to a place that truly feels like Christmas. When you listen to it for yourself, it won’t be hard to see why it is one of our favorites.
‘Christmas Without You’ Cover by Joochan of Golden Child
Another idol with one of the sweetest voices you’ll ever hear, Golden Child’s Joochan treated Goldenness with this cover of Ava Max’s new song, ‘Christmas Without You.’ Only 48 hours after it’s release, and we’re already a bit obsessed (if you couldn’t tell). This cover has all the makings to bring you joy this Christmas, and we highly suggest you add it to your playlist ASAP. Also, can we talk about those high notes?! Joochan’s voice is truly something else, and it fits this song perfectly.
‘Mistletoe’ Cover by Jungkook and Jimin of BTS
Like with NCT, BTS has quite a variety of different Christmas covers and content in general. We went back and forth on which one we wanted to highlight, but this rendition of Justin Bieber’s ‘Mistletoe’ (renamed ‘Christmas Day’) by Jungkook and Jimin is not only a fan favorite but a classic at this point. The duo harmonizes in a way that puts us in our feels, and they make this song all their own. We find ourselves drifting back to BTS’ SoundCloud now and then to play it, and if you haven’t heard this gem before, we suggest you do the same. Bonus, if you are looking for more ways to celebrate the season in BTS fashion, we made a little list for you over here!
‘Santa Tell Me’ Cover by KARD
Remember when we mentioned that a few idols must have ‘Santa Tell Me’ on their playlists? Well, add KARD to that list. Their cover is a stand out; Jiwoo and Somin’s vocals are breathtaking, and when you add in BM and J.Seph, it becomes magical. The harmonies of this cover give us the chills, reminding us why we love KARD so much. They offer a different spin to this song, and we can’t get enough!
‘The Christmas Song’ Cover by Taeil of NCT
Okay, we had to include just one more NCT member cover. But can you blame us? Have you heard Taeil’s voice? We can’t believe how angelic he sounds while singing ‘The Christmas Song.’ The high notes, the riffs, the emotion he pours into the song. Taeil never disappoints when it comes to singing. This cover puts us right in the Christmas spirit, and we’re over here wondering why it’s not talked about more. Taeil is a true vocal king and has done this Christmas classic justice.
Do you love these covers just as much as we do? We also would love to know which one is your favorite on this list, and off of the list! Let us know down in the comments below, or tweet us @TheHoneyPOP!
