We don’t know about you, but we here at The Honey POP love a good music video. Whether it’s dope fashion, cool colors, or an exciting storyline, you can’t go wrong with a well-done music video. Zedd and Griff do not disappoint in that category. Their music video for ‘Inside Out’ is an edgy, mysterious experience that is oh so fun to watch.
First of all, can we take a minute to appreciate Griff’s vocals? Because wow. Just wow. Her voice makes this track great, blending spectacularly with the music. Zedd and Griff are quite the dynamic duo if you ask us.
Is it just us, or does this kinda remind you of Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ music video? A big mansion, lavish gardens, a maze? Admittedly, there’s no crazy relationship drama going on, so it’s not entirely similar, but the aesthetics are there. The ‘Inside Out’ video definitely has a darker vibe, though, in terms of the color palette and lighting. It opens with a nighttime shot of a mansion gate with Griff approaching and entering. There are a lot of dark blue, green, red, and black hues present, which are contrasted by the brighter shades. Griff’s outfits match the lighting and mood of the scenes well.
See what we mean?
We see Zedd and Griff sitting in front of some monitors, playing video games in the dark. The video switches through various scenes following Griff as she explores the maze while Zedd circles around on a motorcycle. It’s mysterious and intriguing. They’re the only ones there- in empty rooms and a big empty garden. Although, Griff faces off against an alternate version of herself- kind of spooky. You can see another light and dark contrast in the outfits and lighting of that scene. It’s an interesting theme throughout the video considering everything that’s going on. In the end, she manages to get out of the maze by literally going over the top of it. But what is this place and why are they there? Who knows.
Now, you could probably interpret this video a few ways, like Griff exiting the maze by overcoming roadblocks in her way is tied with facing personal challenges. The color choices and contrasts in outfits and lighting are also something to think about and pay attention to. Oh, and the lyrics as well, for example:
I’m gonna love you, love you inside out
Nothing you say is gonna scare me now
Still gonna love you, love you inside out
Maybe Griff facing off against herself speaks to those “scary” parts of ourselves that can be hard to share with others. And, her overcoming the maze and herself is a testament to loving someone inside and out, regardless of the not-so-great things we all carry with us. Nonetheless, it’s a fantastic music video, with stunning colors and visuals. That’s just how we see the video. There might not even be a meaning adjacent to the song; the video story and the song story could be totally different.

And there’s more where that came from- we may not have a mansion, but we have your gateway into music news!
