Duran Duran is giving us a stellar tribute to the late David Bowie in a livestream today. January 8th, 2021 Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day! will be broadcast from 6 PM PT/ 2 AM GMT. It’s been a big topic of conversation for at least a month and the artists participating are a golden list if we’ve ever seen one. Duran Duran will be among those honored guests and performers. The new wave group was formed in Birmingham and lead the way for the 1980s Second British Invasion that was driven by MTV. They’re classic and we can’t wait for their performance.
‘Five Years’ Cover
Originally performed by David Bowie and released in 1972, 2012 brought a stellar remaster of the timeless song. Now we get to hear new life brought to ‘Five Years’ with Duran Duran in celebration of David Bowie.
This song’s cover and performance are coming on the fifth anniversary of Bowie’s passing. The music community was devastated by the loss of such an icon. This song also comes in celebration of what would be Bowie’s 74th birthday and what is Duran Duran’s fourth decade of activity. Ticket proceeds will go to the Save The Children organization which was a charity important to Bowie. You can listen to the cover here or wait to be blown away at the livestream. We prefer the latter.
Despite COVID, we must plan for the future and Duran Duran has a plan for new tour dates. We are desperate for live music to come back to us and if things go well the UK and EU will be seeing them real soon. Tickets can be found here and the dates are just below.

My life as a teenager was all about David Bowie. He is the reason why I started writing songs. Part of me still can’t believe in his death five years ago, but maybe that’s because there’s a part of me where he’s still alive and always will be. When we got the Ziggy Stardust LP and put the needle in the groove, our first taste of its perfection was the song Five Years. I can’t begin to explain how honored I feel for Duran Duran to be given the opportunity to perform this icon, and to place our name alongside Bowie’s for this commemoration of his music.
