Right now, millions of people around the world are living in poverty. There’s famine crisis’, war zones, homelessness, and disasters happening every single second, with many innocent children living amongst it every single day. Humanitarian aid is material and logistic assistance to people who are in great need of help and is often charity-based, non-profit, and relying on donations. In honor of Kai of EXO and SuperM’s birthday, KaiSoloProject has chosen to fundraise in his honor. We spoke to the team behind the fundraiser to learn more.

Can you introduce yourselves to our readers?
Hello! We are KaiSoloProject, a small and recent account created last summer to support Kai’s solo activities. We are more focused on providing digital support by offering accounts on Korean music platforms to stream on (either on their own or by joining our streaming team), we’re also giving information to help fans understanding all platforms, how they work, how to help, and so on, although we do work on other aspects like his social score, physical albums, and recently fan projects, such as Kai Birthday Project. We are currently three permanent admins from different continents and actually knew each other beforehand as we became friends online thanks to EXO!

You’re fundraising with Erigoms in honor of Kai’s birthday – what made you choose UNICEF?
We wanted to find something original and more personal for his birthday, something that would fit his mindset and represent him the way he really is, not just as the passionate KAI from EXO but as Kim Jongin, a lovely and committed person. He has shown multiple times that he was someone involved in various causes, not just by participating in campaigns from different organizations but also by defending and standing up for people with words as well as actions. With this in mind, we thought of doing a donation towards a humanitarian organization. Kai also loves children, in particular his nephews, so we decided to choose one involving children, thus leading us to UNICEF. We had chosen the organization before knowing he was supporting UNICEF’s latest campaign so when we saw this, we were even more motivated by this choice.

Can you tell us a bit about UNICEF’s work?
UNICEF is an agency providing humanitarian aid to children from all around the world. They’re carrying out various actions which include providing treatments and vaccines to children and mothers as well as food and water supplies. They’re also helping improve sanitation, provide educational supplies for children, and emergency relief in case of disasters (wars, periods of famines, etc.).

How will donations benefit the charity?
We are collecting donations to buy supplies that will be used by UNICEF’s volunteers to help children. We are asking people to fill out a form so they can share their opinion about the type of supplies they would like us to buy with the collected funds. We have included all types of support UNICEF is providing so EXO-L can select one of the multiple options to decide what we should focus on!

We know that Kai has been involved with a lot of philanthropy and charity work through EXO and SuperM, how would you say he has inspired you?
He is a big inspiration indeed, he has taught us to always be kind and mindful of others, be it in our day to day actions or by doing charity projects. In the past, he has agreed to be on the cover of The Big Issue magazine which is giving 50% of the earnings to their vendors who are homeless and has also joined campaigns to raise awareness on sexual abuse and women’s rights with other celebrities. EXO is also giving all their profits from their winter albums to UNICEF. It is inspirational for us both as fans and citizens. Not only it makes us proud to see someone we admire do something good for good causes, but it makes us more aware of serious issues that need to be solved with actions of solidarity, things we can have an influence on and can change for the better.

We know fandoms are super powerful – what do you think about fandoms and the importance of using that platform for important causes?
We think fandoms should be mindful of their impact on others and use it in a positive way; donations to charity, humanitarian projects and spreading positivity are a few of the best ways to use our platforms to create positive impact in, not only, our close social circle but in society. We all have the possibility to help others be it by donations, our big platforms or simply speaking about it, so all that’s left is taking action.

How can people support your fundraiser?

People can support our fundraiser by sending/donating money via PayPal or Bank transfer after filling this form. Another way of supporting this project is sharing on SNS, that way we can reach a bigger audience!

Thanks guys! We know Kai would be over the moon about this!
